English clubs just couldn't compete financially for the top foreign players prior to Sky's TV money. The ban from European competition from 85-91 was a major turn off too.

True but I'm thinking late 70's. The Italian league was wealthy but I'm not sure outside of RM or Barca there was necessarily huge pots of cash either in Spain or elsewhere in Europe.

He's redeemed himself brilliantly this season, people are talking about his playing ability more than his bad side, and the club chuck him the armband to recognise that change.

As long as he keeps his cool going forward and doesn't have 1 of his moments that's his press problem mostly gone.
