If Suarez has ambitions to play in Spain and will jump at the first opportunity to play for the big two, then why even join us at all? He was on course for picking up a Dutch title, knew he’d have a key role to play in the Copa America and would have had the Champion’s league next year to showcase himself to a wider audience and test himself against the best in Europe. Why then join a club struggling in the bottom half of the Premiership with no guarantee of European football or silverware in the foreseeable future in the hope of landing your dream move to Spain?

It could have went two ways for him. Like a lot of other foreign imports, he might have struggled to cope in the PL and his chances of attracting the attention of Europe’s elite would have been slim. He could prove a success like fortunately he has, but now his chances of moving on are complicated by an inflated price and a new long-term contract. I don’t see any benefit at all in picking us as his stepping stone, as some are inadvertently suggesting.

The way I see it is that Kenny/Comolli has sold a vision for the club to Suarez and as long as we keep our end of the bargain, I have every confidence he’ll keep his.
Not many players make the jump from Ajax to Real or Barcelona.

I just think its naive to think that a bloke from the Uruguay/Argentina border that has spoken of his desire to play for a top (,top) Spanish club wont get his dream move when it looks like he's on the cusp of becoming a genuine world class forward.

I don't think we are in danger of losing his quickly but in a couple of years time and if he's performed consistently like it suggests he will then I'm sure he'll want to move to Real or Barca.

If reports are to be believed then we didn’t have much competition, but my point is that if he stayed at Ajax he would have had just as good a chance, most probably better of getting this dream move to Spain. I just don’t see why he would have joined us at all unless he was here for the long haul.

Is that really true? Pre Rafa, how many did we have? 2? Even if historically there was some truth to it, I don’t think it’s particularly relevant.

There is a fair chance that he might well move on in a few years if it suits both parties, but I agree with those that previously suggested that as long as we match his ambitions then it will be later rather than sooner. I just don’t understand all this doom-mongering after 6 months.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Well i hope i'm wrong, but when he said Torres told him LFC would help him "grow" i just imagined Torres adding..."then you can move on to one of the wealthy giants like i did".

But i dislike Torres, so could be biased.

Anyway, Luis has only just got here, so i don't know why everyone is already worrying about him leaving.

Besides, he mightn't be able to get in our team in a few years when all our young superstars start breaking through.

Torres thinks he grew here, but in fact he blossomed and has now wilted. Chelsea flower show reject

Nah, Suso will replace the other 10 players. He and Suarez will be enough to win all the 38 matches

9 Players - surely there is a place for Insua?

How could I forget him. Then we will of course also sign up Rafa to act as the new Molby. So four players it is.

I think if we can keep him til he is 26-27, that'd be pretty good. And if we get back into the CL and stay there, i think it's more than possible for him to stay for that length of time.
                          He's 25 in January.

I think next summer we'll fight tooth and nail to keep him, then after a year in the Champions League with us, he'll be off to Madrid or Barcelona for around 50 million.

Anyone know if Suarez got to have a break once our season ended or did he join up with Uruguay straight away? If he did join up immediately after our season ended then he needs more than two weeks break as far as I'm concerned otherwise we'll end up paying the price if he can't perform to the best of his ability.

I think he needs at least a good 4 weeks break. We've seen before how overplaying can have long lasting effects on players, Torres being one example. Suarez is the type of player who gives his all as well.
