Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic happy for club to pursue Liverpool's Luis Suarez, despite bite incident

Branislav Ivanovic has told Jose Mourinho that he would be happy for Chelsea to rival Arsenal for the signing of Luis Suarez, despite being bitten by the Liverpool striker last season.

Chelsea are looking for a new forward this summer and, with Suarez having told Liverpool that he wants to leave, he is among the options that will be considered by Mourinho.

It was back in April that Suarez delivered the infamous bite on Ivanovic during the match between Chelsea and Liverpool at Anfield that resulted in his 10-match ban from English football. Ivanovic, though, would still welcome the arrival of Suarez at Chelsea.

“Whatever happened on the field finished there,” said Ivanovic. “He's one of the best strikers in the Premier League. I don't have any problem with him or doubt about that.”

Wow, I am not sure if I can take it if he goes to Chelsea, and those soundbites (no pun intended) from Ivanovic lead me to think Chelsea is a genuine possibility. Oh dear.

Can't help but have the feeling we're a "sleeping giant" these days. I know BR is still in early stages but I am sick of our best players being linked to the likes of Chelsea et al. The gap between us and Utd shouldn't be as big as it is. The sooner we start redeveloping the stadium and improving our marketing off the pitch, in addition to success on the pitch the better

We are a stepping stone club these days. We seem to be happy to do just enough to keep us where we are and allow players to join, up their profile and leave after a few seasons while we lower the wage bill and make a profit.

Don't think that is the case tbf, we are simply in an extended period of transition> Although this transition could be speeded up with a significant investment in the transfer window under BR.

I really don't think that is true mate. I think we're trying to do it gradually as like it or not, we don't have owners who are loaded on the scale of Abramovich and the City owners.

That's just where we are. We fell away quite a bit to be honest and will take time to get back into challenging for the Top 4. I can't see FSG being happy with us just being a mid-table side, nor anyone associated with the club

I don't see many players who are seeing us as a stepping stone, to a bigger move. Just because Suarez wants to move on, it shouldn't classify our club as that

Chelsea would be ideal. Loads of players we can do part exchanges with that will have a fallout with Mourinho this summer: Lukaku, Mata, etc.

Plus Chelsea are more loaded with cash than Arsenal and will be league winners for the the next 3 years running. So not exactly strengthening a direct rival.

I do agree, but after Torres going down the same route for the same reasons we need to get back challenging asap. Which means bigger investment, or every two years this same cycle of events will unfold...who next, Coutinho?
