Lol, broken promises my arse. People have already posted his quotes from earlier this year when he said if we didn't finish in the CL he'd be happy to stay. Then there's the ones from earlier in the summer about how the poor diddums was being badly treated by the English press etc. Now this? He's quite obviously making it up as he goes along; and unlike for the club when you look at what he has said before then we have the actual empirical evidence to show he has not been honest.

And as for this...

Now I can understand a desire to play at the highest levels, but to claim there was some bull**** "gentleman's agreement" that superceeds his actual contract and the clauses therein that he voluntarily signed, and should somehow force the club to sell him for below his market value, well it just stinks.

The patronizing tone of the entire interview makes it even more insulting

"I don't think the supporters are angry – I think they understand a player when he has the ambition to triumph at the highest level."

I've looked back at the article in case I was being an arse without realising. As far as I can tell you are talking about Rodger's "promise" . And on that basis it's a load of bollocks.

People like Luis Suarez pay huge amounts of money for the best legal representation money can buy. These lawyers go into bat on behalf of their client and pretty much tear the house down to get what's best for them - that's why they charge these huge fees and why their clients pay them. And you think that they went in and looked at the contract, arranged all the terms, set out all the monetary details and left one of the fundamental conditions out on the basis that it was fine as an unwitnessed conversation and therefore set in stone as a gentleman's agreement? If I was Suarez now I'd be suing my lawyer, not the club. I know how these people work - if Suarez wanted it in the contract it would be in there. And if it was in there we wouldn't be having this conversation as we wouldn't have a legal leg to stand on so wouldn't risk it going to a tribunal.

I'm not particularly arsed about Suarez's game here as I don't really expect anything less of him. I gave up on him before he started all this up. But to blame the club for what is clearly a calculated campaign on his part to burn every bridge going is an utter load of ****.

A "gentleman's agreement" cannot override a contract. At present he is contracted to play for us for the next three years. Unless our legal people have made a monumental ****-up (which I don't believe for a nanosecond) then he remains our player for the remainder of the contract. If he wants to leave and another club offer us a fee that matches our valuation of the player then we'll sell him and if that situation doesn't occur then we won't.

He should have fired his agent at the beginning of summer.

I know it wouldn't happen because it would be crazy, but imagine if we really did keep him and play him in the reserves for the next three years. Fine him when he refused to play. It would send out a message to those mercenary footballers who think they're more important than the clubs they play for. There needs to be a radical review of football. Nobody is more important than the team they play for, the players should show respect for the people paying their wages. If FSG could afford to take the hit on Suarez then I'd love it if they made an example of him.
