Agree mate. Vicious circle. We can identify and buy all the young talent in the world, but without retention and competing for top honors, we're Arsenal, selling them when we don't win anything. WE need a line in the sand to say "right, this is the 2-3 year plan to get to the top, we're going for it and you're all on-board and staying there"-- if we can't get two years of keeping our progress and players in synch, we'll never get back on top. Consistency and growth is needed; we need to learn to win again."Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

Yeah, listening to it the second time, it did sound like a heavy edit to suit narrative. Even then the language was mixed and seemed to lack flow.Originally posted by marcus50bucks View PostHave the media twisted what he said because this was posted on rawk last night and was translated by a Uruguayan

Some notes:
- he states that the papparazzi have been chasing his daughter and wife into the kindergarten
- he repeatedly states that he loves the city of Liverpool, the club, and the fans
- the "no one defended me" quote is about journalists, not the club or fans
- he hasn't decided to move abroad, but if harassment of his family continues, then he knows what to choose
- there is nothing discussed with Real Madrid or other clubs
- Suarez was annoyed with Uruguayan media for constantly asking him about this rather than the games against France and Venezuela (it was clear that our media wants him in Spain)
- he doesn't exactly think highly of David Cameron, and says that the PM has better things to do
- he never thought that he could win the Player of the Year awards, with the UK media so against him. Even so, some players (here he mentions Gerrard) decided to openly back him
- he says, several times, that the Ivanovic incident was his **** up

I'm not getting too worried about him staying or going tbh. If he goes, I'm quite excited by the prospect of the cash and who we could recruit to the squad to make us better. If he leaves, we'll have a massive wad of cash and I'm a lot more confident about our ability to spend the cash wisely.
On the other hand, I would love it if he stayed and had a massive return, where he sticks it to the press and other fans with a brilliant season - a two fingered salute with his football.
Whatever happens though, I can't see him staying here for the rest of his career. He's going to leave at some point.

this! exactly right mateOriginally posted by dww View PostHonestly, I don't really care how the stuff comes out. All I'm concerned with is how good our team is next year. If he leaves it is a massive blow but the key thing is how we spend however much we get for him.
In some ways it will certainly be a relief to not have the circus that surrounds him next year but I'm pretty certain we will be a weaker team for it if he goes.

"My reason for leaving is not the money, if it was the money I would have left already. My main reason is my family and my image
"Its a difficult moment for me. My coach and my colleagues know they didnt treat me well here, I don't feel comfortable here anymore. They know it, so I thinks its understandable that I leave.
"I'm being persecuted by the media all the time. I couldnt go to my garden or to the supermarket, I couldn't do anything. I know its normal to be followed by the press, but this was too much.
"All the silly things they said about me, all the pictures, all the taunts. That happened every day and nobody supported me.
"They talk about me being named the best player in England. But I knew it wasn't going to happen, I knew because of the way they treated me.
"The straw that broke the camel's back was my mistake (the bite). I accepted that. My fault. But they went too far.
"I don't have any offer yet. I don't know when I will leave or even if I will leave or if I will stay. The club knows what I think and what I want.
"I don't know what will happen, but I have a contract. If I stay I will do my best here, but I don't think that will happen because of all the bullying in the press against me. And the team is very aware of everything."

Absolutely spot on, as much as we love him he attracted the attention from the press with his own behaviour, not just at our club but also in Holland.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostThe bans did it, but he brought that on himself with stupidity. He can't run round playing the martyr when he bit somebody on the arm - he did that to himself and prejudiced his own position.
He's clearly a massively flawed character. No doubt he'll get into more trouble at his next club - whoever they are. The fans will love him wherever he goes. He's great to watch.
He is losing even more respect saying the stuff he is saying, he has brought the ctiticism and attention to his OWN family, he is to blame, his wife should be telling him its all his own fault.
He will get the same media attention everywhere else so he isn;t leaving for that reason, he is lying, either that or he is stupid. He is leaving because he wants to go to Madrid and live in Spain, not because of the media attention, he needs to man up and be honest about his reasons.

Perhaps, but most of the time the intent of the message is clear.Originally posted by Nigey View PostWith the way it's been going with between the press and him since the beginning, I wouldn't bet against a complete lost in translation moment. It wouldn't surprise me at all. Loads of ambiguity in the way this is being reported.
As clear as can be without a transfer request gone in anyway."I will make the boys feel your support"
