Suarez takes on fatherly role
Luis Suarez has spoken about his fatherly relationship with countryman and Anfield teammate Sebastian Coates.
In an interview with Uruguayan newspaper Ocavion, the pair chatted about adapting to life in England.
And Suarez is reported as saying: "I'm Seba's godfather here but it seems by now he's become a son. I think I have two kids now, a girl and a boy!"
The striker spoke to the English TV cameras post-match for the first time after our 2-0 victory over Everton.
"In the Everton match I had been voted man of the match and they asked me if I wanted to talk. I decided to try it and it turned out I did pretty well," he added.
"It's part of what we have to experience there. I was emotional and excited, so some of it came out well and some came out wrong. I need to experiment further."
Meanwhile, Coates talked about his fight for a first-team place at Anfield.
The centre-back has had two run-outs so far, starting our League Cup tie with Brighton after a substitute appearance against Tottenham.
"I'm trying to adapt as quickly as possible," Coates apparently said. "I had to play [against Spurs] and that was very good, although I understand that I will have to wait for my time as there are very good players at Liverpool who have many years in the club.
"Over the last week we've luckily played on very nice days, but the climate is quite strange. Learning the language also takes quite a lot of time, and we're both helping each other learn."Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

have to say and not just as a result of the alleged racist slur - i fear a little for suarez....it's been happening all season and building up........Rival teams/players/fans are ****ing **** scared of him, and there appears to be an agenda groawing to tarnish Suarez.....EVery time he goes down, even when its clear foul, he's ****ing slaughtered by the oppostion for diving - god knows how many times rival fans have told me about him biting that lads ear or the handball in the world cup.
i love the player, and i really feel he's getting a hard time, because reading and hearing other teams fans he's fast becoming hated.
The issue with this racism is the damage is done now and EVra knows it.....Even if Evra comes out and apologisies and says it didn't happen......Thats not going to stop the whole of old trafford slaughtering Suarez when we play them there.
to me it clearly looks like suarez, who is a passionate player, has got other teams running scared, so they look for any advantage they can get.....try and snap him then ask for yellows for diving...wind him up, get in his face to try and get him to snap etc...
Evra is a right cunt, he has previous, he's ****ing horrible cunt of a player - he was clearly going for suarez, even in that gif linked a few pages back...whats evra doing....whats he trying to achieve he's in suarez's face, saying something, suarez is walking away and evra is right into him.....for all we know he could have been saying "i'm going to break your legs you cunt" - he's clearly tryign toget some sort of reaction from suarez.i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

All professional clubs and almost all players will do whatever they can to negate a threat. Sledging, winding up, building up a negative image of an opponent's player or a team, they all do it. Thankfully we've recently drawn the line at racist sledging but otherwise it seems everything is fair game.
I'm not condoning it -it's immoral and unsavoury but it is part of the game at that level. So Suarez will have to learn to cope with this 'agenda'. He's not the first and he won't be the last. Look at how Beckham overturned a very widespread hate campaign (of course it probably helped he's English and was at Manchester United at the time).
I hate to keep banging on about it but it would help if the club got its media relations together. The swift show of support and muscular response to Evra's charges may be a sign they are..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I said something similar yesterday.
I thought Ferguson's comments about Suarez were a disgrace, I don't recall him diving at all in Saturday's game, and I certainly don't recall him rolling around on the floor all the time. I could have understood Ferguson & Ferdinand trying to label Adam a diver after the goal, but not Suarez. The scum also have previous for this they tried the same thing with Torres (when he played for us) usually after they had spent 90mins kicking the **** out of him. There is also a huge level of hypocrasy here given that the scum have Nani and used to have Ronaldo who have been two of the worst players in the league for diving.
I also can't believe having seen the replays for the Rodwell challenge that people can claim Suarez dived there, the knock he took would have been painful, whether or not it deserved a red card or not. I hope part of the problem with the labeling of Suarez recently is because we have played our two fiercest rivals over the last two games, and their bitterness and scumminess knows no bounds. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I agree some criticism is unwarranted but I think people here would have a very different view of how theatrical Suarez is if he played for a rival..

Possibly, but in fairness to him there is usually contact when he goes down - at the moment I can't recall an occasion (for us) when he has gone down and there has been no contact. I don't think he 'exagerates' things anymore than most players, however I do think he is probably fouled more than most.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostI agree some criticism is unwarranted but I think people here would have a very different view of how theatrical Suarez is if he played for a rival.
I've said about diving and 'exagerating' before that if the referees gave freekicks when players are clearly fouled but stay on their feet there would be less of it.Last edited by Exiled_red; 17-10-11, 10:30 AM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

We (footy fans) are by nature generally a bunch of hypocrites.

I agree he is fouled more than many and he hasn't blatantly dived as far as I recall.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostPossibly, but in fairness to him there is usually contact when he goes down - at the moment I can't recall an occasion (for us) when he has gone down and there has been no contact. The trouble is theatricality is all part of the game too and that's a shame. All these defenders waving their arms around to remonstrate theatrically with players they've clipped and accusing them of diving, that's just as bad - although it's possible in some cases they may not be aware of the contact, it can't be true in all cases.
I watched quite a lot of football this weekend and I noticed so much cynicism. Midfielders giving away well-judged fouls, happy to take the booking to stop an attacker bearing down on the back four, players choosing to go down on contact (which is their right, according to Neville - while it's true it's also sad), rolling around in agony of course, even claiming throw-ins when it clearly came off them, and so on.
It's all really unpleasant..
