Sounds to me like he's made it up to cover their sorry arses, because every report I've just read from the time of punishment makes no mention of any part of the suspension relating to previous - eg:

"Much has been written about Mr Barton over recent months," said the FA in a statement. "The regulatory commission had the benefit of taking all appropriate information into consideration. The commission members considered principally the serious attack by Mr Barton that clearly cannot be accepted.

"The commission members wanted to punish the offence appropriately but give Mr Barton an opportunity to ensure his professional conduct does not falter again and ensure he is fully aware of the consequences should he make another serious error of judgment."

Although in theory if they were using the "past behaviour" angle they should have added even more on that occasion too.

Again though I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just speculating that's the excuse the FA might try to use.
You're right but as you've indicated even that is inconsistent as they didn't take that into account when punishing him for the City game. It just smacks of them making it up as they go along.

Was he under a suspended sentence at the time he assaulted his team mate? Also was it not an offence of the same type i.e. violent conduct?

Quite possibly mate, but I can guarantee I heard him say that on the radio this morning. Without a doubt. His interview was absolutely ****ing sickening. Hung him out to dry then name checked his bum chum "Sir Alex" out of the blue and announced he'd be sharing a bottle of wine with him at the PFA dinner this week. I'm not even exaggerating. I nearly crashed my car on the way into work.

He's a freeloading, corrupt cunt. Based on King Street too, no doubt he rubs shoulders with "Sir Alex" on a regular basis.

            I don't.

I don't call him chicken or something like that. He is simply not a big enough name. Not his fault. He is simply a rookie in the game.
I can't. But then again I can't see anyone else standing up to the man. Ever.

It's like FA anything stands for Fergie's Authority...

              It's sickening, it really is.

Just want to again clarify I'm not on their side .

I am though, seemingly less willing to forgive Luis, and more willing to condemn him than some of you lot are. Are none of you disgusted with what he did? I really am. It was one of the worst things I've ever seen a Liverpool player do and I'm ashamed of him. No one on here seems to be all that bothered by it

Maybe I'm going overboard but I really feel he's majorly let us down over this after we've all backed him to the hilt in the past.

...what was worse was the phrasing from Taylor... not just a bottle of red... but "we'll have to get a decent bottle of red for him"... **** everyone else, they can have house red, but get Fergie whatever he wants at all costs...

My understanding is they're independent of both Liverpool and Chelsea in the sense that they've never been employed by either and not a fan. That doesn't mean they're genuinely independent though. They could be Mancs, the ex player might have something against the club from his playing days, the barrister could be a Daily Mail reading xenophobe, **** knows. It's obvious that they are influenced by both the FA and the media though rather than taking the case in isolation.
                    Hello mert.

And the clubs agree to this sytem of handing out punishments? What a bunch of idiots

The last time they had an "independent panel" for Suarez, they had Ferguson's good mate and autobiography contributor Denis Smith on the panel. What an absolute joke.

No one is defending his actions and most feel let down by his actions.

However, for me personally, he's part of the red family and you stand by your family even if they have screwed up. He's said sorry and seems genuine about it.

For me it's the bond that Shankly spoke of.

I do think that the punishment is absurd though and he hasn't been punished for that but rather punished for being Suarez (and foreign).

I keep asking myself one question:
Why did it have to be Suarez? An outstanding, world class, footballing genius....
Why wasn't the 'confused racist', 'arm biter' someone like Spearing... or Assaidi... or Coates... or Hodgson

I think it's that inexplicable link between genius and madness. Seen it in many "genius" sportsmen in the past, it's extremely common for them to be flawed in some other way. It's like they excel in one area, and suffer for it in another.

On Sunday I was dismayed and disappointed, to the point that it overshadowed the rest of the game and I wasn't all that arsed about the late equaliser.

I don't feel ashamed of him and no I'm not disgusted. Bit let down, yeah, but I just think he needs help.
