Seems someone's been talking **** to stir the pot. Just found this from the Guardian, practically rubbishing everyone else's reports.

Branislav Ivanovic has confirmed he accepted an apology from Luis Suárez after the "really strange" biting incident last month at Anfield.

Suárez was banned for ten games by the FA following the incident, meaning he will miss the remainder of this season and the start of next.

"When it happened I was surprised and angry," the Chelsea defender told the Serbian newspaper Vecernje Novosti. "But after the game I calmed down, and all was forgotten. We spoke on the phone, I accepted the apology, the police did not press charges.

"It was a really strange situation. Overnight I was everywhere because of what happened even though I was only a minor character [in the story]. For the first time in the news everything was about Ivanovic."

Ivanovic said the Liverpool striker could have few complaints about the length of his suspension.

"They took into account his past excesses and previous punishments. They added everything up and reached seven games, plus the three he would have had for being sent off."

Ivanovic comes out of this with a lot of credit IMO. Many other players would have really milked the situation, but he made almost no fuss about it. Gone up in my estimations. He had a great game against us too.

Funny how some papers were saying he didn't accept Luis' apology and made Suarez's bit in his statement to be a lie when he said Ivanovic had accepted.

Exactly. And didn't the FA put that the apology wasn't accepted in their report?

Not sure on that bit. Ivanovic is wrong on the past excesses/punishment thing. According to the FA none of that was taken into account

The FA as you know looked at this incident and decided that it wasn't even worth a three game ban.

It is Suarez so stamping on him is allowed. The above is a 100% proof of that.

FA have a big problem thanks to that. Everyone that stamps on a player can use the Huth stamping as an example to help their case.

If they then get banned then sue the FA. They would IMO win the case in court.

The Huth stamping is the most clear cut stamping incident I have ever seen in the PL.

I think it only couunts for Players who stamp on Suarez as he clearly has his own rule book.

The Ghana reaction was hysterical because it was an african nation in an african world cup. If it was any other team it would have been long forgotten about.

And i agree, any player in that position if his will to win is correct would do the same. The missed penalty was at fault, not Suarez.

The FA don't have a big problem at all. They make it up as they go along with little regard to the principles of consistency, fairness or justice as most right-minded people would define them.

You say that people can use the Huth case in their own 'trials'. Well, again, the FA have demonstrated that highlighting past examples has little bearing on their pre-determined outcomes.

What this does do is highlight their hypocrisy, and it should be used by people outside of the FA to put pressure on them to reform their practices.

Alas, it won't. Not least because football is so tribal and full of vested interests. If it was Wayne Rooney receiving an 8 game ban for racially abusing a player, then a further 10 games for biting, would we be outraged? Of course not. We would be revelling in the injustice of it all. How can we therefore expect others to constructively support the cause?

The will to reform has to come from the outside, before it will be replicated on the inside, and as always with football, there are simply too many vested interests to make that happen.

Yeah, just like the English have long forgiven and forgotten Maradona's handball in 1986.

Snooker world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan says he has sympathy with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and can understand his "moment of madness".

O'Sullivan, 37, has worked with sports psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters, and believes he can help the Uruguayan.

Suarez, 26, was banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic and O'Sullivan compared it to when he quit during a match against Stephen Hendry.

"I understand what Suarez did - I totally get it," said O'Sullivan.

"It's a moment of madness and you think, 'Wow, what have I done?' It's like me walking out against Hendry.

"You regret it afterwards, but at that moment you are over-run by these emotions."

O'Sullivan was fined £20,000 after quitting in the sixth frame while trailing 4-1 in a best-of-17-frame UK Championship quarter-final against Hendry in December 2006.

However, O'Sullivan, who struggled to stay focused in long matches earlier in his career, began working with Peters in 2011 and went on to win the 2012 World Snooker Championship, his fourth success at the Crucible.

Now in the quarter-finals in his first major tournament after taking time away from the sport following last year's world title victory, O'Sullivan credits Peters for making him mentally stronger.

"Dr Steve Peters has been great to me," added O'Sullivan. "I've really worked hard with Steve and tried to take on board everything he's shown me and spoken to me about and I'm benefiting from it massively.

"Ever since I first saw him, before the 2011 World Championship, for the whole year leading up to winning the World Championship last year, I worked really hard on trying to get hold of my emotions and my brain.

"Not once have you been able to see me lose the plot. Sometimes inside I feel it's tough and it's challenging, but I'm able to overcome that.

"That [a walkout] won't happen again, none of those meltdowns will happen, no matter how frustrated I may be with myself out there. I'm able to put that on hold until the game's finished."

With Suarez set to be banned until the end of September, O'Sullivan believes Liverpool and Peters - who has already been working with the club - will be able to help the Uruguayan control his temper when he returns to action.

"It's not a quick fix with Steve, but if Liverpool stick with him and Brendan Rodgers they'll win the title," said O'Sullivan.

"If Liverpool can have Steve there for four or five years then they'll win the Premier League."
