Was that not the Argentina game where Ratin was sent off, rather than the drab 0-0 vs Uruguay?

      I think you're right.

There was a very famous International in South America in the 60's (Battle of Santiago?) but that was Chile (obviously) v Italy.

It was in the 1962 World Cup which was held in Chile. But yes, it was Chile v Italy. It just wasn't necessarily Chile.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Seems it wasn't just against England that the Argies put it in:

          From Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1966_FIFA_World_Cup

FIFA cautioned Argentina for its violent style in the group games, particularly in the scoreless draw with West Germany, which saw Argentinean Rafael Albrecht get sent off and suspended for the next match.

Well not all of us are old enough to have been there Mr Woof.

It was a West German referee who sent off Rattin against England. And it wasn't just against West Germany that England got some lucky decisions in the 66 World Cup finals. Hurst scored a dodgy goal against Argentina that led Argentinians to call it the theft of the century, or some other hyperbolic nonsense.

It puts Rattin's sending off and the 'Hand of God' into some context though.

Hahaha what next, maybe it's just because he wants play in the champions league with a club like Real Madrid?

I really should have considered that.

"Here I come to play for Uruguay and not thinking what I can do to benefit a transfer," he told reporters at a press conference ahead of the match against Spain.
