If we put in a respectable chase for the title and qualify for CL, and keep building from there, I don't think it necessarily is inevitable. We just need to keep up with his ambitions and show clear progress.

Though I don't expect that to be easy it is possible.

This is exactly why short term is much more important than long term at the moment. A player like Suarez can't waste his career at a club not playing in the CL.

How many years have he left at the top? Impossible question to answer but probably max five. He can't stay year after year at a club not playing in the CL.

It is really up to FSG to show that we want to get back into the CL as soon as possible. That means spend spend spend as much as they can and not selling our best players. IIRC that means making a loss of €45m over a three year period.

It is not good business to make a loss but we must get back into the CL as soon as possible. In this case that is more important than balancing the book.

Arn, what gibberish, we can't spend more than we earn, it is what FFP is all about. FSG has always said their model relies on this being implemented. Spending 50m+ more for the next 3 years will put us in breech of those new rules which would in theory mean we wouldn't get into the CL.

Only certain teams will be exempt.

We are allowed to make a loss, that means spend more than we earn. IIRC it is €15m a season the first three seasons.

IIRC FSG have already spent €30m of their own money. I think they called it interest free loan.

If FSG want to balance the books all the time then we won't be playing CL football because our best players will continue to leave.

What about Arsenal then? It works there.

The answer to why it works there is that they play in the CL every year and can because of that replace the star players that leave. Playing in London also helps of course. Would a player like Higuain even consider signing for them if they didn't play in the CL? I would say not a chance.

That model of course don't work if you want to win the PL. If you want to do that then you must have a squad packed with very expensive players. Something Wenger finally understands by the look of it.

I think he would have done. Like most players, if they can see a clear plan of what the club wants to do he will sign.

Monaco dont have Champions League, and probably wont for a season or 2 still. But they are signing players left right and centre. I know a lot of that is down to money. But clubs like Anzhi, Man City, Chelsea and to an extent Bayern can offer them similar money after the tax if they really wanted them.

I dont buy the argument that good players 'only' sign for Champions League clubs. Look at us getting Luis.

I doubt that Suarez would have signed for us if he had known that Torres would be sold but that is my opinion. I also doubt that he would have signed for us in our current situation not playing CL football for years and will get it very difficult to do it the next couple of years.

As you yourself pointed out the only other way is to pay mega wages. Many times more than £200k a week.

So basically you expect them to spend 15m. Which if suarez stays they probably will, they're showing some intent anyways.

                      So what's your issue?

He issue is that Rafa would've done it differently

€15m plus whatever the transfer budget is net.

I don't want them to put a lot of their own money into the transfer budget. €15m wouldn't put the club at any risk.

FSG have let Rodgers spend £49m *net*. I'll let that soak in for a minute.

So you're annoyed because you want them to spend the same in this recently opened window as they did in the last 2.

                              Whilst they're still signing players.

If I'm understanding correctly then sorry but I don't understand your issue.

So, if we've established that FSG are funding a massive squad overhaul, I think it's fair to say they're building that squad with Champions League football in mind. So that when we *do* qualify, we can cope with domestic AND European football and qualify the following year too.

Suarez is a hiccup; a player who is entering his prime and wants to play his best football in the Champions League. Whether he goes or stays, I'm pretty sure we'll replace him and continue our target of qualifying for the Champions League.
