If he had a clause that allowed him to leave for £40m he would be gone by now.

Just don't think there is as much interest abroad in him as he thought there would be. Some probably think he is more hassle than he is worth.

That he is worth £40m and if clubs knew they could get him for that they would. If clubs know that Liverpool can still reject an offer that high why bother trying.

Maybe they just don't fancy paying the clause and are relying on Suraez to get the value down?

The clause wouldn't be a fixed value anyway. So, speculating further, it would depend on his market value.

                        Ok. Guessing then.

                        That doesn't make any sense.

The clause would reflect the value of the player as from a base figure, which could be £40m as stated. Doesn't mean the club HAS to sell for £40m.

How would that value be determined in terms of variance from a base figure?

Market value (i.e compared to Cavani, Hulk etc...) and from what he's achieved since the contract was signed.

But many players have a fixed release clause. Don't know of many that varies with performance of player. Either the clause states he can go if we recieve a bid of £40m or it says we will inform him if there is a bid of £40m. The latter we could probably argue wouldn't force us to sell at that price.

Bearing in mind agents were involved in contract signing, you'd expect it's a £40m release clause and we've messed up. But no guarantee on that though.

You would hope if he does decide he wants to move though that he has the decency to not cause a stink and actually leave for a fair value/fee after how the club and fans stood by him. I still expect him to leave though. I think the comments by Ayre were purely to send a message out to Suarez that he will have to request a transfer if he wants to move.
