I think that's a pretty harsh judgment on him "as a person" but I don't know how representative his on-pitch behaviour is of his character. Maybe you do..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Lol. I think you should dig the posts up, my memory of that exchange is a touch different from yours it seems...
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

Unless you know him personally, this is a little unjust. Those who know him personally in the team speak very highly and favourably about himOriginally posted by dom9 View PostI still have very little time for Suarez as a person - I think he's pretty obnoxious, immature, a bit of a bellend. But he's our player, and very good one at that, so of course I'm behind him.

Fair enough, but his behaviour on the pitch and in press conferences this summer means that I have very little time for him. That's all I have to go on, so I'm happy to sit in my ivory tower and cast judegments.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostI think that's a pretty harsh judgment on him "as a person" but I don't know how representative his on-pitch behaviour is of his character. Well, we know he puts a lot of money and a fair bit of time into his charity work in Africa.Originally posted by Venton View PostSurely you can only judge people on the actions that you know about?
No-one seems arsed about that though.

Not sure what kind of welcome he would get in Ghana though.

Lots of footballers do the same. I guess lots of footballers also don't.
Either way, it's not swayed me.Oh I don't know.

I might try at some point, although I'm not sure of the quickest way to do it.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostLol. I think you should dig the posts up, my memory of that exchange is a touch different from yours it seems...
Essentially I was saying we should be careful not to abuse him too much (people were saying some disgusting personal things about him) as there was a good chance he might well still be a Liverpool player come the end of the window.
You obviously thought the mere notion of him staying was so laughable you decided to mock me for it.
Now I'm, with a typical lack of grace, stuffing it right back in your face dude, and I'm loving it!

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlLt5sMc4wU"]Luis Suarez: South Africa Documentary (2010) - YouTube[/ame]Less well publicised is Suarez's charity work which took up much of his spare time in South Africa.
“I care about social inequality,” he said. “Whenever I can I love being active part of organisations that promote solidarity projects.

That would be a point in his favour although my cousin Barry does that too and he's a swine of a manOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostWell, we know he puts a lot of money and a fair bit of time into his charity work in Africa.

I'd say more an awareness that there's probably loads of stuff you don't know about means withholding judgment is a better course of action.Originally posted by Venton View PostSurely you can only judge people on the actions that you know about?
It's really easy to be judgmental and I think it's often a trap.
And there's also loads of stuff he doesn't do, that others have done. To my knowledge, he hasn't chinned anyone in a club, he hasn't been arrested, he hasn't got drunk at the Christmas party and shagged a stripper on stage... Of course that's not especially noteworthy, most of us haven't done any of them, but then most of us aren't in the public eye like all these gazillionaire footballers.
I doubt many of us would find ourselves blemish-free if put under the media gaze these guys endure (and are richly compensated for). We'd all probably all look like bellends to some extent, especially if the media were hostile to us for some reason.
That's not to excuse the worst examples of his behaviour on the pitch, just to contextualise them.Last edited by Neil Young; 03-09-13, 11:29 AM..

Hmmm. I'm thinking it might have been a touch more nuanced than that, but whatever because I definitely can't be arsed proving it, I defer to your graceful triumphalism.Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostI might try at some point, although I'm not sure of the quickest way to do it.

I should also point out that having been an almost lone voice in favour of Sturridge pre-signing, having been right behind Rodgers from day one, and having been telling everyone going overboard about net spend and FSG to chill out for the last month, I really should be allowed just a touch of leeway on this one
