It is also fairly normal they go for players who impress at the WC, and with the kind of form Luis is in he could quite easily be the hottest property in world football by the end of the tournament.
Madrid are crazy but not crazy enough to be paying the sort of money we'd want for a position they don't need to spend crazy money for. Costa makes more sense as it would badly weaken a major rival in Atletico and would be a good replacement in size and fit for Benzema should they replace him.

Actually surprised we haven't started seeing some fake "Suarez to City/Chelsea" stories yet!

This will happen during the build up to the City match.

They've banged on about it on Revista for months that Suarez is top Real's list of Galactico targets, but with our unwillingness to sell, it's more than likely that Falcao will be their choice, with Aguero also an option.

Suarez will still be a world class player at 32-33. He doesn't rely on his pace at all to get by defenders. It's his quickness over 5 yards and trickery that does it.

I expect him to have Del Piero/Totti type of longevity.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez prefers Sergio Aguero to Luis Suarez, but will probably attempt to sign neither this summer.

That is according to the Deputy Director of Madrid-based newspaper Marca, Carlos Carpio, who says that Real Madrid do not intend to invest in a new centre-forward this coming summer

However, Carpio believes that, should Los Blancos attempt to sign one, it will be Liverpool’s talisman Luis Suarez, even though he is not Real’s president's first choice.

“I do not think Real Madrid will sign a striker this summer. Until today at least, this is the idea which dominates the offices of the Bernabéu. In the case that they would go for one, it would probably be Luis Suarez by rule of elimination.”

This is due to the fact that Manchester City’s owner Sheikh Mansour made it clear in a recent meeting with Real’s president that his star man was too valuable to his club.

“The one which (Real Madrid president) Florentino (Perez) likes the most is Kun Aguero, and the Sheikh of City told him in a meeting that took place months ago that Kun was a vital part of his project.”

Carpio went on to say how he felt Madrid were better off if they did not sign Suarez as he could interfer with the incredible goalscoring form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“They are different but I prefer Benzema ahead of Luis Suarez because I prefer Cristiano (Ronaldo) as a goalscorer ahead of Luis Suarez. Benzema provides, as well as a respectable number of goals, many other things,” he concluded.

Real Madrid are like magpies collecting shiny things. Logic doesn't come into it.

Aguero looks a better target, at a smaller club so more chance of him wanting to leave, plus the Maradonna link is pure PR and sales heaven for Madrid.

Yes - any decent PR guy could spin the crap out of that connection. And while Madrid may be many things, they are good at the commercial side of things.

Maybe so, but I can't see them wanting to use an ex Barca player for such purposes.

Haven't we publicly stated that if a Prem team wants him, they'll have to pay over £100m?

Why wouldn't The Mirror know that already!
