On a slightly different tack, did Vladi get the opportunity for a bit of mutual applause last night?

Nah, it was announced he was in the stadium and his song was sung a few times, a lad on another forum says Uefa wouldnt allow him on the pitch at half time or something. Ridiculous if true.Originally posted by mersey86On a slightly different tack, did Vladi get the opportunity for a bit of mutual applause last night?

For a serious moment - it does seem unfair to me too when keepers from foreign clubs we've never played before get booed for not responding. Still....there's far worse that goes on in world football for goalkeepers than being confused at being booed for an unknown reason.Originally posted by mersey86When they don't return the applause it can be a bit irritating - like putting your hand out to somebody who just stares at it. But it annoys me when the Kop boos the non-responding keeper, especially when it could easily be a case of lack of awareness (Cech is a different case).

To be honest at a lot of clubs (certainly in the lower leagues) the all out abuse of opposition keepers is the norm. I imagine this is true in most countries, so they probably think it is normal.Originally posted by calvoboyFor a serious moment - it does seem unfair to me too when keepers from foreign clubs we've never played before get booed for not responding. Originally posted by DJSYou know, the applause, and then subsequent boos if the keeper doesnt applaud back....
It's often occurred to me that goalkeepers of foreign clubs rarely get what's going on, and therefore dont clap back, because they're assuming the Kop is applauding LFC, rather then them.
Bit harsh to boo them, methinks.
The whole notion appears to get lost in translation.
You can just imagine the keeper telling of his experience back home...
"So how was it playing in front of the famous Kop?"
"B*llocks.....all i did was run towards my goalmouth, and the feckers booed me".....
Teams never run out at the same time. They never start clapping until he gets close to them. Thats how 99% of goalies know they are the ones being applauded/welcomed. something like that doesnt get lost in a language barrier.Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.

Yeah I saw that too, my parents had never seen anything like that in Australia and were amazed at the sportsmanship.Originally posted by calvoboyYou'd have thought Paul Robinson was playing for a transfer when he came a few weeks ago. Applauded the Kop well before he got into his penalty box, continuted to clap all sections of the Kop with his hands above his head, then put his keeper's bag in the net and turned round with a thumbs-up!
Even ex-players don't usually show that amount of love!

I think it can depend though, sometimes the keeper might be so focused on his own thoughts, that he may not be concentrating or even notice the specifics of the applause.Originally posted by The GloveTeams never run out at the same time. In the majority of cases, if the keepers knows, why WOULDNT he give a little quick clap back? Surely most just would, no skin off their nose.
