Bit simplistic isn't it? If the club broke promises then you can't blame him for being pissed and wanting to do whatever it takes to make sure they fulfilled them one way or another. It's not like it was about something just affecting his pay, it was about his career and his family life - important things. I can well believe our owners and certain directors at the time were complete cunts and used us against him in the media.

According to the lad on YNWA who, unlike the odd twerp on here, is fairly well connected, Mascherano was prepared to play and Purslow decided he didnt want him to for fear of injury, because Purslow wanted the money from the transfer.

there is a bit of a common theme with Masch, Riena and Torres

all seem to have been convinced to stay over last summer in order to make the sale more possible and promised they could leave if they wanted to (maybe with a certain value bid needing to be made).

Two of them have gone and actually you cant blame them the club was a shambles and the both want to win things. I know they didnt give FSG a chance but sometimes it just gets to the point you have to go and even though its someone different at the club you think i have heard this before.

I am glad that pepe has stayed but the really "cuntish" thing for all to do would to have gone last summer and we would have been in even bigger trouble. Whilst things could have been better its important to remember it could have been worse as well

Not questioning anybody's side of the story, but has anyone other than Hodgson ever confirmed that Mascherano refused to play.

At that time Mascher leaving felt like a kick in the nuts and I admit that I felt happy watching him sit on the bench. But considering the state of the club and Purslow/Hodgson dream team running havoc, I dont blame him now.

Purslow did a phenomenal job against G&H in the court room. However, all signs point to the fact that an additional couple of chapters can be written in "Epic Swindle" on Purslow's football management in summer of 2010. The fact that he has been politely and progressively marginalized from the club despite the significant role he played in ousting G&H says something.

This has been one crazy season. We have had an ex-manager dedicating his world club championship and an ex-player dedicating his CL victory to our club. Both were sincere gestures and they recognize the role we have played in their careers.

As of now the only thing which cannot be doubted is that Javier Mascherano was a great player who gave 110% whenever he stepped out on the field and was worth every penny of the wages we paid him. I will remember him for that. If a lot of our players had his mentality, maybe we would not have had to wait this long for number 19.

absolutely. He was my favourite Liverpool player when he was with us because of his commitment and pride in the shirt. One or two other Liverpool players could've took a leaf out Mascherano's book.
              Class player and a warrior.

Just find it funny that the same people who called Mascherano every name under the sun when he left are the same people now with their head up his backside after his interview last night.

I fully believe our old owners broke promises as that was nothing new for them but when anybody refuses to play for their team then any respect for them is gone. I dont buy that it was purslow who told him not to play - that guy gets blamed for so much and 99% of it is hearsay and lies - IMO mash (he wanted to leave for family reasons fair enough) chose not to play to force a move from a club he had signed a contract to play for which as a result played a part in a defeat for a club that gave so so so much to him over the years - I call him a cunt for that as I love my club and anyone who ****s with the club I do not respect.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Rudo, I am one of the people guilty of what you have accused a lot of fans of . I think it is basic human nature.

We are now in a significantly better state than we were when Mascher left. It is easy for us to be magnanimous and forgiving when we are in that state. If we were still under G&H and Hodgson, I would have been screaming every expletive I know when Mascher made that statement . Also now that we know what a mad house our club was in summer of 2010, as other posters have pointed out, let us be thankful for who decided to stick with us, rather than being angry at who left.

Truth is for a number of years we have been signing players and in one case, even a manager, for whom signing that LFC contract was the pinaccle of their careers. By stepping through that doors, they have achieved what they set out to in their careers. Most truly great, talented, ambitious players and managers will only view us as a vehicle to achieve their ambitions. If their ambitions do not match with the club ambitions, they will leave. Some are more savvy in choosing their timing, manner and reason for departure ( see Xabi) and some are not ( see Mascher, Owen and Torres). It is imperative for FSG and Commoli and King to get us back to the top in the next 2 years. Otherwise we are going to see this pattern recur.

I blamed Barcelona at the time and still do. They should have earmarked him and signed him over the summer instead of early in the season as it was really unsettling to the side. The way they turned his head before the man city game was really arrogant of them. Look at how they're teasing Fabregas.

Hold no grudges with Masch and last night was a genuine statement from someone who was obviously touched by the city and the club.

Loved Souness' big grin after Mascherano's comment...compare that with Neville and even Redknapp

Good to hear him still thinking about us, the mention was a nice touch. To be honest I've moved on.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Was a nice touch to mention Liverpool fans, but I don't really care about Mascherano. He played well Sat night, but truth is he wouldn't have had a look in had Puyol been fit. He did the dirty on us to become a bit-part player.

Thanks for the gesture, was worth it to see Ratboy's reaction, but we've moved on, and I actually think Lucas can be better for us than Masch ever was.

MAsher was probably my favourite player whilst he was here. I can watch him again without feeling negativity towards his now, so that's a big step forward.
                            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Don't think we'll ever get such a gesture from Torres. One, because he is horrible and two, because he'll never play in a Champions League Final let alone win it
