How come other teams seem to have played their first-string the last few matches but we haven't? I remember we did this under Rafa as well, lots of the deadwood and youngsters got pre-season time never to be seen again

Kenny Dalglish is set to call upon the services of a number of senior first-team stars for Monday night's friendly with Valerenga in Norway – a match you can watch live on LFC TV Online.

The likes of Pepe Reina, Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger are ready to join new boys Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson on the flight from John Lennon Airport to Oslo later this afternoon having missed Thursday's trip to Galatasaray.

Dalglish confirmed to Liverpoolfc.tv: "Pepe will come with us to Norway and play some part, Glen Johnson should be ready for a game, we think Daniel Agger will be back as well and we will also have Charlie, Jordan and Stewart to play."

It's about time we got a little more serious about pre-season.

Commerical trips and long distance fitness games aside we need to start building some momentum.

Totally agree Wiw. We have this year and seasons prior been forced into shoving the ****e from out squad out in pre season to try and flog them off.

Lots of other clubs have been settled with their main 15 or so players playing most of the warm up games. It is very worrying.

Considering Chelsea, who I have seen in pre season, their key players have played a part in 3 or 4 games already, with more to come. By the time the season starts their key players will have all played together 4 or 5 times, with ours only playing twice.

It can only be a good thing to have played more together and give your first team a better opportunity to kick off the season well and we all know how important that can be.

If we feel the need to play so many youngsters/deadwood every pre season we should just go and double book ourselves (which is practically what we did with the Gala game).

Pick of Stevie at Melwood only a day before he was taken to hospital due to infection complications.

A Liverpool XI are in action on Tuesday night when they make the short journey across the Mersey to face Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Kick-off is at 7pm and the likes of Suso and Nathan Eccleston are expected to feature.

Tranmere, under manager Les Parry, start their League One season on Saturday when they host Chesterfield, so it should be an interesting test for Rodolfo Borrell's young Reds.
Maybe some of the deadwood may play to be in the shop window
