AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed the club are on the brink of signing Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool.

The Italian midfielder's agent declared earlier on Wednesday that he was hopeful a deal could be struck quickly and reports in Italy suggest terms have now been agreed between all parties.

The transfer is not official yet as Aquilani still needs to fly to Milan to undergo a medical and put pen to paper, which could happen in the next 24 hours.

But Galliani has been unable to contain his excitement at the news and has declared that Milan will not look to sign anybody else.

"We've signed a player with great quality," said Galliani. "He's the right man for Milan.

"Our transfer market campaign has now come to a close."

It is understood that Aquilani will join Milan on an initial loan deal and a permanent move will be triggered if he makes at least 25 appearances this season.

Some of our transfer activity (in and out) has baffled me. This one included.

I can only assume Aquilani was just desperate to leave, which is a real shame as he showed genuine flashes of quality in pre season and could have made a real impact for us this season.

I'm taking the credit for this deal.

I know a lot of Italians and they're not laughing at us.

They are, however, laughing at you.

Yep, and I don't think it sets a good example to other clubs. Spurs want to loan Cole now. And we'll probably do that as well. The same thing happened with Chelsea a few years ago - total mugs.

We're losing a player who is good enough for the first team squad (at the very least!) and we're gaining what... we save about 70% on his wages. ****ing wow. What a deal!

And if he goes there and plays well... well then we hit the jackpot. 6 million euros baby! Just think who we could buy with that. Fabian ****ing Delph cost that a couple of years ago.

I have to say, I'm really not bowled over by our activity in the transfer market thus far. We've spent over 100 million pound in the transfer market now since January - incredible backing from the owners. And Suarez and Enrique aside, I don't think we've improved THAT much.

Early days and all that, and I know what this message sounds like. But I consider myself to be a patient fan, and I am a bit worried to say the least!!!!
