Joe Cole was awful yet again I really hope we get rid of him and extremely selfish on the ball at least five times he had the option to pass to Kelly but opted to go inside and ended up losing the ball. I know it is only a pre-season friendly but he is shocking and am hoping someone is interested in taking him.

Yep, he's dreadful, it's a shame as he's a trier but I think his body has completely had it, for this level anyway. Need rid but it's a big ask with the wages he's on.

Not yet. Defence suffers from chopping and changing more than any other area on the pitch.

To be honest I haven't see Robinson do anything wrong from the little i've seen of him in the first team. Out of him, Kelly and Flanagan I have most confidence in him to become a regular for us in the future. That's not to say the other two can't either as they have all done well.

Long term (as in for the season).....not really, especially if we're bringing in a couple defenders, plus we're not out there with our real first choice.



Short-term, its a nasty habit to have going into the start of a season.

Not really, fielding mish mash teams without players like Johnson and Lucas. We do need another centre back and a left back though.

Aye. We played without Pepe, GJ and Skrtel and featured others in odd pairing for no more than 45 minutes.

That said, we still need a new LB and hopefully CB (if we can get rid of all the deadwood first) and if that happens (we could get by even if it doesn't) we should be fine defensively.

Well having just watched the full match after downloading it I was very impressed by Downing and Carroll's link up, the second half they combined well but there needs to be someone there to get on the end of Carrolls knock down's because he is so good at them. Gerrard would be useful in those type of situations I think. Other stand out players I thought were Flanagan, Adam and Henderson. I'm happy with the new lads, think they were all good.

I really hope to see at least a settled defense in the next couple of friendlies. Especially given that we may be without (or want to rest) Lucas at the start of the season.

Certainly the two or three before the Sunderland game need to feature a settled defence. I'm sure having Reina there will also help the back line.
