Pretty good line up except I'd start Jonjo for Adam (maybe Wilson for Soto too) and I wouldn't play Cole.Originally posted by Rich View PostDefo a mixture of experience and yoof:

Flanagan - Skrtel - Kyrgiakos - Robinson
Spearing - Adam
Kuyt - Cole - Maxi
Carroll
Perhaps Shelvey instead of Adam. Stick Coady, Sterling and Silva on the bench.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Fair point but they're all internationals, so should be fine.Originally posted by Chris View PostThink the defence is asking for trouble with a reserve keeper and a CB who hasnt played in pre season, agree with the rest though apart from the hapless Cole who shouldnt play for us again unless we are absolutely desperate.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Frenchie
Jasus fellas, Kenny could play and we'd still win, they are truly ****e...check their record, plus they have injuries and will probably field a 17 year old up front.

I think they will learn more in odd cameos with the seniors than all playing together against Exeter.Originally posted by Mostar View PostTotally.
All of them are involved into week-to-week first 11 selection and this shouldn't be any different.
We shouldn't have any issues winning if Jonjo, Spearing, Robinson, Flanagan or Wilson would start.
I would prefer the new boys to start and get more playing time together with just one of 2 kids.
It's not that I fear Exeter or don't want to give the young kids a chance but I want to see us thrash Exeter for a confidence booster and I want the new lads to have another 60 to 90 minutes playing together.

Our goal is to do well in PL this season and I wouldn't start most of our regulars including new boys (bar Carroll, who I think need games to get the confidence back), as the risk of picking up some injury is just too great.Originally posted by topscorer View PostI think they will learn more in odd cameos with the seniors than all playing together against Exeter.

Hate to see Enrique or Downing getting injured and sidelined for sometime in the game that we should easily win.
In terms of youngsters, all of them played competitive football at senior level on more than one occasion and should be good enough to help us qualify to the next round without playing big guns.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I agree that PL is the priority, that's why I want the new boys to play, they need more playing time together to get an understanding of each other and this is the perfect kind of game to do that.Originally posted by Mostar View PostOur goal is to do well in PL this season and I wouldn't start most of our regulars including new boys (bar Carroll, who I think need games to get the confidence back), as the risk of picking up some injury is just too great.

Injuries are always a risk, you cannot be afraid of picking someone in case he gets injured.
Also, I don't think Carroll lacks confidence. I think he should play because getting some goals will boost his confidence and help his fitness.
The risk with Carroll is media and fans heaping undue pressure on him the longer he goes without scoring which is why this is a good game to have him play and score (I hope) and put that little story to bed before it gets out of hand.

I agree that pressure from press and fans has to play the role and him not scoring early on must have some affect on his confidence.
Playing him on Wednesday, as I said before, would be a good thing imo as he needs to bang in a few to get ready and start producing when it really matters like on Saturday.Last edited by Mostar; 23-08-11, 02:04 AM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I do not think he is lacking confidence. I think forum fans are building pressure on him and the media will pick up on it and add to the pressure if he doesn't score soon.Originally posted by Mostar View PostSorry you do you or don't you think he lacks confidence?

He's only played in 2 games and had a good goal disallowed so he has no reason to lack confidence. The problem is that a lot of forum fans lack confidence in him, it's not that he lacks confidence in himself.

Do you really think our first team would take more confidence from beating Exeter 4/5-0 in the CC in a round they shouldn't even be in than beating Arsenal 2-0 at their own ground in the league?Originally posted by topscorer View PostI think they will learn more in odd cameos with the seniors than all playing together against Exeter.

I can understand the need to get them more games playing together, but I'd prefer our first team to concentrate on getting ready for Bolton. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
