The Kuyt/Carroll choice is an interesting one. I'd be tempted to play Kuyt actually. I think movement is more likely to give Stoke problems than height. Also if you can tire their defence then Carroll will be a highly effective sub.

That is what I was thinking, Stoke are set up for height, Carrolls approach would be something I would imagine them to have little problem coping with for the most part.

You're probably right, but I thought the traditional english type of games were the reason we paid out for Carroll. He might enjoy a physical tussle.
