    Lunatic???

Spurs are 1 point below us with a game in hand and have already played Utd and City and showed yesterday that they're capable of playing far superior football than us.

Look at what I actually said before going mental.

I've said we're on target for 54/55 points this season, or 6th or 7th place.

The likes of Adam, Henderson, Carroll, Skrtel, Agger, Bellamy and dare I say it Carragher these days, are not going to take us back into europe. This side is miles away. The 2 most technically gifted midfielders we had we sold within a couple of weeks of each other, we were missing quality yesterday.

We'll be 5th or 6th place again, fighting it out with the likes of Everton and Stoke for the Europa League again.

We're still ahead of both of these sides at the moment, granted yesterday was terrible but we were 1 down up until Adam went off, from then on in it was always going to be tough plus the loss of Agger in the heart of defense.

You've decided these players are average after 5 league games! 4 of which we've been decent in and 1, the Spurs game we were woeful but also had 2 men sent off.

We're not going to get into the top 4, Spurs are IMO, we'll be 6 or 7 points short and battling it out with Everton and Stoke for europa league places.

I'm not deciding these players are average after 5 league games at all...they did exist before the start of the season you know.

Decent in 4 games? We've played the poorest Arsenal side in decades, the Arsenal that conceded 8 goals to Man Utd and shipped 4 to Blackburn, yet they had to have a man sent off before we could take advantage. We've beaten Wigan, wow, drew with the mighty Sunderland, and were battered by Spurs before the sendings off, they were playing us off the park and looked like scoring everytime they went forward. Its offensive for people to point towards the sendings off at Spurs because it was men v boys before that.

It'll become clear to everyone by the end of the season that we've brought in a very average bunch of players for mega bucks, and we'll be closer to Everton (who's entire squad cost 50p) than we are to the top.

People will always dismiss this, they do every season. We will see who's right.

Might want to re-check our fixture list there, Manc.

Hahah ****ing hell, you actually sound like you'd be over the moon if we failed so you could come on here and boast about it. Sickening.

Alright Bolton, ffs, no need to call me a manc.

I'm just being realistic. We're an average side and people need to lessen their expectation. Its the same **** every year, high expectations, this is going to be the year blah blah blah. We should never have sacked Rafa, the only man capable of sorting this out.

we are bedding in adam, henderson, downing, coates, enrique and to some extent suarez and carroll - 7 players - into a team in transition that is trying to play good attacking football.

it aint gonna happen overnight but still we beat arsenal (yes a poorer team than last year but still they are still arsenal), bolton (a team renowned for being tough nuts to crack and yet we done it in style), drew with sunderland (first half performance was superb) and got beat by stoke (a game we could and quite honestly should have won).

given that we are sitting with 7 points and are still trying to find our feet (not to mention the imminent return of our inspirational captain which in itself will be like a new signing) i struggle to see why you are flowing with negativity?!? we have bough proven players in downing and enrique (couple of seasons) and carroll and adam (one season each but impressive none-the-less) coupled with potential in henderson and coates. yet you seem to think we will battle with an everton side who are falling apart at he seams over the course of a full season?

its septemeber and we are playing good football (bar yesterday) in a league where outside the top 2 the next 2 places are anybodys.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

Yes we're bedding a team of new players in, but unfortunately I don't think any of those are exceptional players, the quality we need to take us back into the top 4. Carroll and Henderson are too extremely average signings for big bucks. Enrique and Downing are a step up but still fall short. Then we have the likes of Skrtel, Carra, Johnson, Maxi, Bellamy and Spearing, there's just not enough depth of quality.

There is basically 1 place to play for, 4th, and Spurs will have the edge by a couple of wins.

Moyes is one of the best managers in the league and every year we think they're going to struggle to stay up but they almost always over achieve. The fact that they were just 4 points off us last season and are on the same as us now is a disgrace considering what the squads are worth.

I disagree. We will be contending for top 4 spot with Gooners and Spurs as it was predicted and nothing really changed with our loss yesterday.

I also think we are giving Spurs more credit than what they deserve.

Sure they played well for the first 15 minutes but after the goal their pressure subsided and we were controlling the ball better and trying to impose ourselves and then Adam sending off completely changed the course of the match.

Let's not forget that we finished the game with 9 players too and that we were missing GJ and Stevie as well as Spurs played their strongest lineup and they played at home.

They were better team yesterday but we will be battling them and Arsenal for CL spot all season long.

Frankly I think neither Meireles nor Aquilani would have made one iota's bit of difference yesterday

Spurs won because first and foremost they won ALL the midfield battles

Aquilani and Meireles can hardly be considered ball winners

Sometimes you have to do the basics first and winning tackles and second balls should be high up any managers list of requirements from his central midfielders

Thats more an indictment of Hodgson than of the club as a whole

Possibly not, but both are capable of making the decisive pass with the quality they had. There was nobody in midfield with that technical ability, actually theres nobody in the squad now with their technical ability at all.

I agree though, even the basics were poor, I just don't agree with anyone who seems to think we were doing well until yesterday, not with the fixtures we had.

I think your rather overlooking our Captain?

Your definition of brilliant is not mine, and if this is the average fans expectation of brilliance then we're definitley set for medicority.

I've said Enrique and Downing are a step up from Carroll and Henderson, but fall short (of the quality needed for a top side).

Enrique doesnt fall short at all, nowhere near it.

But we also have to take into consideration the honeymoon period with Dalglish.
