Haven't they got a league game on Friday? Two days later. And they're right near top of the league.

If so they'll be fielding a weakened side for sure.

edit - just noticed Vicente didn't feature for them at the weekend.

we need to put the spurs result behind us and move onto the next game. we got the tactics wrong and that is that.

id like to see carroll start again with bellamy, kuyt, maxi and adam in there somewhere. andy carroll needs goals and the others need games. however we cant be disrespectful to brighton who are a decent side.

          we need to move on.

Gerrard to return as Dalglish demands improvement

Kenny Dalglish has warned his under-performing stars it is up to them to get Liverpool out of trouble.

Inspirational captain Steven Gerrard will return to the squad for the first time in six months at Brighton on Tuesday night.

But following the 4-0 thrashing at Tottenham on Sunday, the angry Anfield boss wants his players to stop looking to Gerrard and start providing answers for themselves.

Gerrard will make a welcome return – possibly off the bench – with many fans saying it can’t come a moment too soon after devastating defeats in the last two Premier League games.

But Dalglish hinted he may look to the players who got Liverpool into their current mess to get them out of it again.

He said: “It’s natural everyone will look to Steven, especially after we lost 4-0, but we have to look at ourselves after a defeat like that.

“Stevie has done fantastically well to get where he is, and having him back in the side can only be a good thing.

“But we know there is plenty of room for improvement after a defeat like that, and we have to correct the mistakes we made, improve on it and try to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“It is about looking at ourselves and that is we’re going to concentrate on.

“We’ll decide when the time is right and when Steven is fit to play, but the most important thing is we work hard to put right what has happened.”

It is the nature of Sunday’s performance at White Hart Lane – and the timing of it – that has disappointed Dalglish most.

Liverpool played well and did most things right even in defeat to Stoke a week ago, but against Spurs they were always second best, even before Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel were sent off to reduce them to nine men.

The lack of fight when a performance was needed proved the most worrying aspect for Dalglish.

And even though Gerrard will clearly provide more spirit, the manager wants his players to look to themselves, not anyone else, to find a winning way.

“The players should be upset after a performance like that, because this football club expects more than that,” he added.

“This is about a team and about a squad and not one player. Each player has to look at themselves, and correct the mistakes they made – and that is all they should concentrate on.

“We have had good days and we will have a lot more coming but that doesn’t mean we dismiss a performance like that.

“When we played well we went out and worked hard to make it better and we’ll do exactly the same.”

Agree with those who want a strong team, Brighton will be full of confidence after a very good start.

                  Reina

                  Flanagan - Carra - Coates - Robinson

Kuyt- Spearing - Lucas - Maxi

                  Carroll - Bellamy

Subs. Doni - Gerrard - Kelly hopefully - Suarez - Downing - Henderson etc.

Agree that we need to field a strong team for this one.

I worry about our defence to be honest. I think Flanagan (or ideally, Kelly if he's fit) should be fine at RB, I'd like to see Aurelio (RIP) at LB if he's available. It's the middle that I worry about, but I'm sure Coates will be fine and Wilson had his best game for us against Exeter when he played CB.

                    I'd like to see a 433 of:

                    ---------------Reina

                    Flanagan Coates Wilson Aurelio

                    ----Henderson Lucas Spearing

                    -------Bellamy Kuyt Maxi

Just for all those talking about Brighton being strong and up for it etc - they have a game TWO nights after we play them, and will put the league first. They wont be that ****ing strong, with an under strength side.

I hope Gerrard is on the bench to save him for the weekend. Maybe give him a 30 minute run out at the end to get match fitness. So happy to see him back. Would like to see how Wilson handles himself at CB again. Carroll to start alongside Bellamy for me. I would like to see them link-up and Suarez to have a rest.

Liverpool will bid to secure their place in the fourth round of this season's Carling Cup at Brighton on Wednesday night without the services of Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel.

Both players were dismissed during the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday and will now serve an automatic one match suspension.
That's handy isn't it. At least they'll both be right for Wolves!

CRAIG BELLAMY and Sebastian Coates are expected to be handed first starts of the season when Liverpool go to Brighton.

Bellamy’s second stint at Anfield has so far been restricted to a pair of cameo appearances whilst Uruguayan centre-half Coates made his club debut as a first half substitute against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Tomorrow night’s third round Carling Cup tie at the Amex Stadium is also likely to see captain Steven Gerrard make his comeback after six months out and Dirk Kuyt, who sat out the disappointing 4-0 loss at Spurs, earn a recall.

Young full-backs Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson are also anticipated to earn selection for the match against Gus Poyet’s Championship high-flyers as Kenny Dalglish’s men look for a repeat performance of their second round win over Exeter City last month.

Daniel Agger, however, remains a serious doubt for the trip to the south coast after he lasted just 27 minutes at White Hart Lane having picked up a nasty looking bang to the ribs with the club expecting to learn the full extent of his injury today.

Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel will miss out tomorrow night (7.45pm) as they serve one-match bans having been sent off in the game against Spurs.

On an afternoon of few highlights for Liverpool in the capital, Jose Enrique’s performance at left-back gave supporters a degree of solace and Robinson says he hopes to reach the standards set by Liverpool’s summer signing.

“Jose is someone I have watched over the last few years and someone who will be a good player for us,” said Robinson, the youngest player to feature for Liverpool.
