Good win - potential banana skin tonight, Brighton are in great form, yet we came through it relatively comfortably. We still haven't put 90 mins together, and are still not taking our chances, but that first half performance was fantastic. Someone's going to be on the wrong end of a hammering the day we start finishing properly.
Hope to see Brighton in the premiership next season though, a lot to admire about the club, its manager and its fans.
Couldn't watch much of it, just looking up now and again as I'm preparing for an interview tomorrow. Having a tea break now....
These games are usually tough tests for premiership sides and tonight was no different. The possession stat in the second half was shocking, a team with genuine superiority in class should always have the lions share and create more open chances. This is where we're falling short at the moment (midfield). This should improve with SG back but I think we lack that high quality pacey technician with a bit of genuine trickery that always makes the difference, terrorising the opposition.
That said, the back four is our real achillies though. Coates has a lot of hope on his shoulders.
really this game should have been dead and buried by half time. when its only one nil the game is still in the balance.
there are moments when you can play quick tempo one two touch football but its difficult to play it for 90 mins. when you cant penetrate the opposition easily we need to keep the ball better through midfield and we cant seem to do that. its either were attacking or were defending. theres no real keeping possession or just holding onto it for 10 to 15 passes. we lose the ball to easily and when we lose it we cant get it back quick enough so teams find it easy to play against us and we are under the cosh for large periods.
we won, spurs is out of the system but wolves will be a big test.

We were ****, Carra giving away a goal again, ho hum.
We weren't **** but we weren't great in the second half either. Thought we were positive going forward when we did.
Reina I thought was good tonight after I slagged him off, young Robinson played well as did Spearing and Carragher apart from their **** ups.
I can see why people are calling for Carragher to be dropped particularly when he makes tackles like that but to be fair he is pretty good for most of these game, he played well tonight up until he made that challenge.
Spearing also played well too but he should have just put it out play instead of trying to keep it in.
Finally we need to accommodate Kuyt in that team somewhere, he links up well with Suarez and I also believe Suarez and Bellamy will end up being our front two.
They work very well together, the are both clever and quick and their movement and awareness of those around both on and off the ball is very good.
As for Carroll, I feel really sorry for him. His confidence must be shattered not playing tonight.
I hope he gets a run out soon and starts banging them in, the Kop will love him and he will become a cult hero.

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.
First half we bossed it should have been 4 or 5 up, similiar to Stoke didn't take our chances and we're bit unlucky, but 1-0 is always precarious.
In the second half we just seemed to stop playing, players disapearred and some players looking knackered, Brighton stopped sitting off and really went for it. Delighted with the win but second half performance was garbage and they deserved something out of the game for their second half display, pinned us right back.
Anyways Stevie back, Kelly got nearly full game, Coates was ok but very early and nice to see him get 90 mins & Bellamy was man of the match for us and IMO should be a starter, all good i suppose but alot to improve on.

I can see that too. Wolves maybe.
So far we've been pretty effective out wide (a bit weak on the right) and we have Suarez +1 up front, which is awesome, at least on paper. It's the creativity and attacking support, a midfield player who can follow up for knock-downs, or hit home scrappy rebounds. Adam and Lucas (and Spearing) are all solid players but none of them are what you'd call dynamic. Stevie could be the player that gets the system ticking. Cut backs from Downing, knock-downs off Carroll, crosses from Enrique. Lucas dropping back a bit further and helping the CBs. It's easy to see how it could all come together in the long run. If Gerrard finds his form from the off, we could score a lot of goals soon.
That's my optimistic post out out of the way for this season.

Obviously said by someone who didn't see the second half or watched the game on Sunday. Confidence is everything, but it's never built on thin air.
What? Of course I watched the 2nd half and **** knows what sundays game has to do with anything, which i did watch by the way.
Sick to ****ing death of people whining. Think someone said it better before, whine when we lose, whine when we draw and now whine when we win.
It wasnt convincing, but so what. We are through to the next round and Bellers has carried on where he left off with us. A top top player that imo should never have been sold. We also have our skipper back.
Turn that frown upside down.

Him and Suarez formed a very nice partnership but they are still adjusting to each other and if Kenny plays them more regularly they could be deadly.
