We do not line up 4231 with Dalglish. I don't think we will either.

This team is obviously still bedding in. Things haven't been plain sailing so far this season, but to have expected otherwise would have been a little overoptimistic imo.

Carroll looked better. As the season goes on I think he and Suarez will eventually form an excellent partnership if they both stay fit, while I'm pretty happy with the idea of Kuyt and Bellamy being available if they (and Carroll individually) don't really continue to improve.

Of the players we signed in the summer, only Enrique and Downing truly merit their places in the team at present. Gerrard should relegate Adam to a squaddie, they just aren't of comparable class, while Maxi would seem to offer more than Henderson currently out on the right. If we're lucky with injuries over the next half dozen or so games, I think the selections and our form in midfield areas really could sort themselves out.

We obviously do have an issue at CB with Agger injured again and Coates needing time (and lacking experience). Not a lot we can do about that, although realistically that always could have been out achilles heel this season. Skrtel is the one player left in our first team squad who I simply don't rate and never really have. Still, at least we should be sorted at full back.

Generally, we'll be ok, and will be get stronger as this season goes on. Work in progress, but who seriously expected otherwise?

Not a bad game. Carroll had a good game I thought. Suarez could have had a bag full, and their keeper had a blinder. Although again I worry about this team defending.

Here's a few stats from today which probably explain why our midfield is pretty light weight in letting play through us.

Both Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson failed to make a single tackle in that game, where Lucas made 4/4 and Downing 1/1. Most of Henderson's 22 passes were back passes, after receiving the ball 28 times, 6/8 were successful forward. Against Spurs of his 24/35 passes, he completed 4/15, the rest were successful back or square passes.

I really have no idea why he's in the team right now, in only that KD is blooding him thick.

But then I have expected to win the league every single season for the past 21 years.

                Not my greatest literary moment.

What I meant was that Kenny is stubbornly trying to play him into a good player. I hope it works. In the mean time, our right is a liability, with very little protection for Kelly, or Skrtel last weekend.

Who gives a ****. First half we were great, second not so much. Is it a pattern? Not yet anyway. Better teams will punish us, but then i doubt we'd be that complacent against better teams. We still need someone to keep the ball and dictate the tempo in the middle but Gerrard is on his way back. Onwards and upwards
Because when you complain about our players when we lose people say that people claim that results are responsible for skewing people's views. Obviously you'd rather win than lose, but there's so many things that need to sorted out.

On the match. Carroll was so much better today it's not possible to compare him to the Carroll that has been showing up every other time we've seen him play. He had a lot of average moments, but his effort and enthusiasm for the game was great. At least we have something to work with here, something which I haven't always seen. Even though it wasn't a 35m (Just to annoy you, Craig performance there's some hope in there) there was will, no criticism from me this week, if he put this kind of performance a few weeks in a row then it'd be something to build on and that's all I ask.

I know others will instantly disagree with me, but I really don't like Downing. He was good today in patches, but I think he makes the wrong decisions in important moments and thinks he's better than he really is which leads him to be more ambitious than he should be. The time he got the ball and had Adam, Henderson and Suarez pushed into the box and all he had to do was square it, but instead took the shot on himself and the keeper saved it leading it to hit the crossbar was so annoying. There was several times he's seemed almost blind to runners off the ball and only wanted to implement the one pass or cross and ignored (or hasn't seen) anything else. He also just watched Enrique from like 5 yards away when there was an overload on our left flank in a 2v1 situation where Enrique was isolated. I'm not blaming him for the goal, because it was a multiple **** up but surely rather watching your team mate being bullied by 2 players you'd actually think to help out considering Downing was doing sweet **** all at that moment in time. He also went missing for long periods when we were struggling, but was less guilty of this than in previous games, definitely better on the left. On the plus 2 good crosses, something we haven't seen in previous weeks and 1 or 2 neat passes.

Adam, I like him but not in the capacity we have him in. I can't believe how much we've relied on him because of our squad he's basically on the only other option in midfield. I hate the thought of Gerrard being used as a central midfielder and not an attacking one, but I think it's going to be the only option. Adam is possibly the worst tackler I've ever seen. He makes Paul Scholes look like a ball winning genius. The fouls he gives away in horrendous positions are getting too much. He tries too many killer balls and shouldn't be starting every game for us.

Suarez, love him. What a goal. Although needs to calm down when he's subbed. I don't mind players being unhappy to leave the pitch, that's a good thing but needs to display his emotions in a more positive manner.

Disappointed that Bellamy didn't get a run out. I'm not overly happy with what we saw, but we got the job done and even though we could've lost it we had more chances to win it.

Agree with Kenneth and Zapater about Adam. He will be a very useful squad player and a great cover. But I just dont see him being a regular starter.

He should either up his defensive contribution, which I will be surprised if it happens at this stage in his career, or take his attacking play to the next level.

Well first my 10 year old sons match comments: -

                              1. We played better in the second half
                              2. Carroll never jumps for headers
                              3. Suarez is our best player
                              4. Glad to see Gerrard back and was upset Suarez was taken off for him

                              1. For me our attacking play looks awesome but our finishing sucks which means too many games are made out to be hard work unnecessarily.
                              2. Our defense has many frailties which is a little disappointing because I hoped Steve Clarke would be able to sort that out.
                              3. Carroll played much better, at least he put some graft in today. If he keeps that up he'll come good
                              4. Adam is useless at tackling, I never noticed how bad he is until today. He's a liability when in our half.
                              5. Three wins, 1 draw and 2 losses isn't really good enough but considering we are bedding in a lot of new players and had such a big upheaval over the summer I'll take it. The loss to Spurs is the low point, I hope we have no more of them.

Now we are due to give someone a good thumping. Who do we play next
