At least 'corporate' tickets have gone to a proper supporter like Yozza. Better than the majority who end up either sold for hundreds on the web or in the hands of someone who doesnt care about the game.

Hope you have a cracking day Yozza.

You seem to be suggesting that a home side with an inferior XI (if we go with the theory that ours is noticeably inferior to their's) cant bridge that gap on the given day and win the game. Is that what you're implying? Because it would be vastly off the mark.

And in any case, you point to previous years when our first team was closer to their's. Well you yourself point out that it wasnt the cast last season. Yet we beat them convincingly and deservedly so.

So how do you explain that then? And why is it so unlikely to happen again?

You seem to be totally dismissing the idea that we could play well and beat them deservedly, describing it as 'clutching at straws' - no genuine Liverpool fan would ever say that or feel that way.

The way we 'occasionally' play at home to Man Utd? Occasionally? We've done it for the last 3 or 4 years at Anfield.

And for the record, no team can produce that every game, the mancs dont do it either. Your suggestion that they do, is wide of the mark.
It's on the day that matters.

No that is not what I am saying. I am suggesting that we will beat a better team because we can motivate ourselves more fully than in our other games is clutching at straws just like the notion of a bogey team. I would much rather we were resting our opinion on the fact that our team is much better than theres. Can anyone honestly say that? And how often have we been able to say that in the last decade? Exactly. Painful but true. I grew up with the situation being the reverse. Us winning trophy after trophy and them occasionally giving us a beating in "their cup final." Now its reversed and that is truly sad.

And Man Ure do seem to be up and motivated for a greater percentage of games than anyone else. That is why they win more. Their team has not been noticably better in terms of quality than Chelsea or Arsenal in recent years but they have a better winning mentality which they can maintain more consistently than others. That is why they win more.

We cannot and our team does not possess the quality that they have. Thus expecting us to win or making us favourites is not rational. It is clutching at straws. It is hoping that something will happen that is neither logical nor rational. That can happen in two horse races with so many variables.

But it comes down to this. You and others are happy to cling onto hopes of extra motivation from the crowd and nature of the opponents.

I would rather be basing my opinion on the fact that we are a better team. We are not.

Thus they are favourites (regardless of what anyone says) because the bookies make them clear favourites.

Thus we are left hoping for something irrational and unlikely to happen...

That's nonsense i'm afraid. First, take out the word 'will' because nobody can say that any team 'will' beat another.

Secondly, of course we can (and generally do) motivate ourselves more for a game against the mancs than most other games and of course we can beat them, regardless of them having a perceived 'better' team than us.

How do you think stronger sides sometimes lose games then?

I'm sure you would but the fact is, it's usually the better team on the day who will win a game and we're more than sufficiently equipped to be the better team on the day, as we were last year and have been before.

Your doom mongering is bizarre to say the least, even more so given how decent our performances/results have been against them in the last few years. It simply doesnt add up or make any logical sense - hence why i say you're a WUM, because your viewpoint isnt supported by reality or logic.

They win more for various reasons. Generally they have better players than the majority of their opponents. On the day where they dont, those type of evenly balanced games can go either way, sometimes they win, other times not. They win their share of games against their closest rivals, but also slip up at times too. I dont really see any point you're trying to make here.

This, again, exposes you as a WUM and probably a manc, because no Liverpool fan would genuinely dismiss our chances to this extent. You speak as though we're ****ing Plymouth Argyle or something.

The gap in quality isnt anywhere near as obscene as you suggest. With home advantage and a good performance, it's entirely logical and rational that we can beat them and do so convincingly.

If the team with more quality just won, and it was that simple, every single one of us would be taking millions off the bookies. Your viewpoint is simpleton stuff.

Predicting us to win isnt saying we're favourites. You dont need to label us favourites to predict a home win, because there's nothing that says the winners have to be the favourites.

It's not 'clutching at straws' to say that we're definitely capable of winning the game, nor is it clutching at straws to predict that we'll win.

If you were right, how come we battered them last season, when our team was weaker than it is now? Nonsensical viewpoint.

More absurd nonsense. Being favourites doesnt mean they'll win and being underdogs doesnt mean we wont.

Two questions (which i doubt you'll answer):

                1. Why dont you admit to being on here before previously as 'redheart' ?

                2. How many hundreds or thousands of your life savings have you bet on Man Utd to win the game? Seeing as though any other outcome is so 'irrational' and apparently 'clutching at straws' ?

You know what, if we do lose on Saturday, you'll be on here delighted and giving it the 'i told you so' line or discussion. Which again proves what a WUM you are and that you're no more a Liverpool fan than i am Mother Teresa.

You attempt a "logical" argument but fail. Most of your conclusions have not been deduced from the "facts" that you offer. Coming up againt the limits of your intellect you revert to type- abuse and insults.

It's apparently clutching at straws to think we could win - because our team is too weak. Yet last year, we had a weaker team and battered them 3-1. So how does your argument work again?

You cant answer this can you?

I was offered a ticket to sit in the directors box at the Aviva last night and meet the players afterwards, but kindly refused as I’d have felt like a bit of a charlatan due to my indifference to International football.

More importantly., I was actually too skint to go.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
