I really don't know why teams play wide players on the opposite flank to their favoured foot. I know one of the arguements is that they can cut in and have a shot but to me it just narrows everything up

Totally agree. I can understand if its enforced, or an occasional tactical switch during a game to mix things up, but by default like we seem to be doing with Downing just seems odd.
