Time to reunite Suarez with Cavani at club level. Come on JWH, make it happen. Luis is the future and we need to build the team around him.

I think he's better as a right sided centre back. When he plays with Carragher he has to play on the left side of the two.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He is good until the final third, then he really is not good enough.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostI thought Henderson had an excellent game second half. Maxi should have played based on merit due to his excellent performance last week but Henderson did well. He's going to be a very good player.

The positives for me were Lucas, who bossed a midfield. Charlie Adam has come on leaps on bounds and him and Lucas were really outstanding. Adam very unlucky with the shot in the first half that Hart saved with his feet. Reina gave us a few scares but overall he was excellent. Once again Skrtel and Agger were solid at the back along with Johnson and Enrique. Suarez was his usual busy self and was unlucky with a few efforts.
On the down side. Stewart Downing. Why, why, why does he not at least try to beat a full back. Not once did he face up to Richards and beat him to the byline. Instead it's the safe option every time. Stop and play it back to Enrique and let him take on the defenders. Then he had two great chances and completely fails to hit the target. Even the one that Hart saved from him was completely scuffed. As someone else has said, Henderson is young and has an excuse. Not Downing.
Henderson was better second half but still tends to make the wrong decision and takes up wrong positions. Tends to leave it to others to do the work but needs to step up. When Gerrard returns he will be a better option off the bench, but not a starter.
Dirk. Was poor again today. Does the hard work but so many of our moves stop with the Dutchman. He does link up well with Luis, and positionally is very good, but that first touch is not getting any better.
I guess it's saying something that we are disappointed not to win, but I really feel like it's an opportunity missed.

You're still chatting £40m plus for two players in those positions good enough to improve our first XI.Originally posted by acdmackay View PostThe performance today made me think we may not need to spend so heavily in January, I would say one huge marquee signing. A striker and possibly a tricky playmaker (Similar to Silva or Mata) if we can afford it.
Can't see it happening in January.

The fact is we are improving. The new lads needed time and perhaps a lot of fans were frustrated that it didn't click right away. I think we are starting to look more like a team rather than individuals. They are still gelling and we are a few signings away from being a top 4 team, possibly even title challengers.

Great game - not taking the 3 points is disappointing, but then again not many teams will take a point and batter them - and all that was with henderson/downing starting over maxi/bellamy - given the latter I think we'd have got the 3 points.
interesting stats: we have the highest % possession of any team in PL against City this season (56%), and no other team has reduced them to as little shots on target (and off too) than us: 3 on, 4 off.
Positive signs for the next 6 PL games ahead:
Fulham (a)
QPR (h)
Villa (a)
Wigan (a)
Blackburn (h)
Newcastle (h)

Jesus, how many times at Anfield are we going to be so unlucky and not bag a deserved three points? It's becoming a theme of the season and is starting to piss me right off. Is that four draws on the bounce at home now?
That said, delighted with the performance, apart from a long spell in the first half when City dominated possession, I thought we bitched them totally. Defensively we were immense, a few untidy jitters aside, and going forward in the second half we looked excellent at times. **** Joe Hart anyway, the *******.
Downing is a waste of space, another £2 million performance from our £20 million signing. Suarez worked his balls off again, and Lucas and Adam were very good.
Very encouraging, but I never worry about us playing the top sides, it's the next run of games where we simply have to put lethargy aside and rip a new arsehole for the smaller sides.
