Quick Question - Are you a Liverpool FC fan first and Football 2nd ?
This is maybe not quite a direct answer to the question but I have to admit if LFC ceased to exist I would probably lose interest in the game entirely.
I knew about LFC before I knew about football. When your younger and its the only team a large family supports. I didnt really have a choice.
I love Liverpool, but football fascinates me. So I guess that's where I am.
I'm the same, didn't really have a choice. Called myself a Liverpool supporter long before I even had much interest in football (well watching it anyway, always loved playing). I do remember being really young when we were playing United and my brothers throwing me out of the living room, so I went upstairs, cried and cheered on United.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
Yeah I know I was trying to draw the comparison that LFC, like Barca, has a special relationship with it's supporters and the communities they are in.
Both clubs represent something which, although expressed in football, goes beyond football. So, for me, LFC is the prism through which i view football and without that it would just be like rugby- a good game but only worth watching the international, I guess that is why you always get a Northampton Town FC flag at England games!
Everyone where I came from supported Liverpool. Most places in Scotland would follow Liverpool. My dad disputes this, because he's a Manc fan and talks out of his arse.
What about your area in Edinburgh Buzzo? Were there many Mancs there?
Probably Liverpool first for me, didn't really know a lot about football until I got taken to Arsenal v Liverpool at Highbury by my Dad and uncles (all Gooners ffs) when I was 5/6ish. I don't think i'd even seen a game before then and I fell in love with Liverpool that day (much to the disgust of my family).
Then I can vaguely remember the 1982 world cup particularly Zico, Socrates, Falcao and Rossi. It was an exciting time especially getting to see Italy win the World Cup.
If I wasn't playing football, I was dreaming of playing football or begging my dad to take me to more games.
Now generally speaking apart from Liverpool I can't be arsed with the sport anymore apart from the odd player here and there I can't get excited about them in the same way I did about Zico, Socrates, Baggio, Lentini (pre crash), Boniek, Laudrup, Platini, Ronaldo (the real one), Scifo, Hagi, etc.
I hardly watch any football if it isn't us playing. Sat down to watch Chelsea v City on Monday, lost interest after 20 minutes and I couldn't tell you the form of any premiership team without looking at the league table. I'm not a big fan of the world cup either, I think it's overhyped bull****.
What I struggle to understand is that whenever we're linked to some fancy foreign name that most of us have never heard of, a person who 'hardly watches football' usually claims to be an expert.
How this expert can know so much about these foreign 'world class' talents, yet have never heard of a player like Scott Sinclair is beyond me.
I bet if Scott Sinclair played in the Peruvian 2nd division, then we'd have a full player profile on him.
Just an observation BTW...
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
