Surely the point of the comparison is not to compare quality one for one but to show that even excellent players sometimes struggle to acclimatise at big clubs initially?

van Persie was also there at the same time as Henry wasn't he? Far less pressure and far less expectation.

Yep, he signed for just £3m and arrived with next to no expectation, was on on the fringes for ages and I imagine those first 40 odd games were all as sub. Totally different scenarios.

They are but no analogy is prefect. I think cases like van Persie and Crouch illustrate that there are many times when difficult starts to players careers at a club are not necessarily indicative of them being a write off.
