There's more than one way to win a football match, and if it really was as simple as all that you'd have plenty of clubs doing it.
    "Bait"

"Stoke are doing extremely well and good on you. Punching well above your weight." Did i not SAY basically just that? The reason plenty of clubs dont do it the Stoke way is that it's possible and achieveable to stay in the PL by playing football too, as well as doing what Stoke do.

Actually forget it kris, i'm not going to rise to your 'bait'....

I saw us go into a final-day relegation battle with Man City where a win could have seen us safe and we lost 5-2, and both teams were relegated to the third division in the worst experience I’ve ever had at a football match. I saw us capitulate feebly, countless times, under a succession of managers – ones who played directly, ones who played percentages and ones who tried to play the game “the right way” (spare me). The one thing they shared in common was that they were absolutely dog s**t.

So do I enjoy stuffing Arsenal 3 times at our place? Do I enjoy watching my team win an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley by the biggest margin in 80 years? Do I enjoy grinding out hard-earned points at places like White Hart Lane and Anfield? Do I enjoy playing and winning real European cup ties against the likes of Besiktas, Dinamo Kiev and Valencia?

I think you know the answer!

That said, it’s not as if we don’t question the way TP sets the team up sometimes (show me a set of fans that doesn’t) and a lot of us would prefer us to keep possession and play it on the ground a bit more… but it’s horses for courses innit – TP plays football his way and what he’s achieved doing so is nothing short of remarkable – anyone who could turn their back on it because of gripes about the style of play either aint a football supporter or doesn’t have a heart.
      That's a superb post.

Don't let Craig bother you mate. We all think he's a prick as well

I lived in Gills for 20+ years and worshipped TP when he was there.

****er kicked us out of the cup the other week...

Seems we may have some injury doubts… Shotton and Woodgate could be out, which to be honest can only be good for us…

Has Woodgate been an unmitigated disaster? I know he's been dire at right back which is kinda to be expected (we've seen similar with Skrtel playing there)...but he's also played CB too - was he **** then as well?

Being very generous, he was ok at CB. Showed traces of the player he once was here and there – excellent positional sense etc – but just looks scared to make a tackle, and he’s slow now too. To be honest it never helped his cause that he was displacing Huthy, who was outstanding there last season and is again this season now that he’s been reinstated.

By the way, Salif Diao will probably get his annual start tomorrow – TP loves to put a player in against his old club – could be interesting…

Haha dear me. Others may disagree with the severity of my claim (although not one will claim he was any good), but IMO Diao is the worst Liverpool player I have ever seen.

In fact let me adjust that - he was, until good old Hodgson brought Poulsen and Konchesky to the club. But Diao, yeah, dear me.

                  Worse than Kvarme or Piechnick?
                  Oh I don't know.

                    Yep I reckon so

Kvarme started really well and I think had some ability. Piechnik...well yes he was pure dung but he made...what....15 appearances in a couple of years?

I honestly think I've got more technical ability than Diao. He just went round booting people ....and his first touch went further than Jay Spearing can kick it

Hehehe good old Salif… When he first arrived on loan (in our promotion year) he was absolutely outstanding – just a rock in our CM around which our team instantly began to revolve… he continued some fine performances into the Prem too – we owe a lot of where we are now to “The General.”

But time has taken its toll – he’s still capable of coming on to firm things up in the last 15 minutes here and there, but starting at Anfield…? Gulp…

Shame about Woodgate, he used to be a brilliant defender but injuries must have taken their toll. Always liked him as a player though.

Some years ago, I remember listening to a french journalist who said Diao would have been happy to have left France for a championship club let alone one in the premiership.

The journo said never in his wildest dreams did Diao ever expect to get a move to somewhere like Anfield:

                              Sadly it showed.

My overriding memory of Diao was him blasting short range passes and then wondering why his teammate was struggling to control the ball.

Crap player but seemed like a decent enough sort.
