because if terry is found guilty of racially abusing Ferdinand do you think he will be banned for life? I don't see why fans should be treated harsher than players. This lad is what 20, does he not get the chance to repent and be forgiven in due course? Or are his actions to stay for his entire adult life? As we've seen in the discussions in the suarez thread, people can make racial remarks without being racists. There is a political party that has members that are openly racist that do much more damage and are free to do so. I agree we as a club have no choice but I think football has it wrong.

Secondly, you're not naive enough to think players and fans will get dealt with in the same way. Rightly or wrongly, that will never ever happen. Harsh as it is, the odd fan is easily dispensible, star players arent.

This lad knew full well what the consequences would be of doing what he did. He also know how much **** it'd cause the club and he knew what the current climate is all about just now. He still chose to do it - he isnt a kid, he knew what he was doing. He knew the kind of severe reaction this kind of thing would have and he still chose to do it.

He's accountable for his actions. He chose to do it, he must face the consequences.

So our laws should punish people based on the effect it would have on their life, not on their offense.

Aside from which it wont affect the player as much as you think.

I cant remember the player/team involved now but a few years ago a player received a banning order - he was lower league or higher end of the non league pyramid. He could play in games but couldnt sit in the stand. He effectively had to wait in the changing rooms if a sub or return to them and not sit in the dugout if he came off.

I agree that excluding him doesnt solve the issue and does indeed just point to football washing its hands of it - but is it upto football to solve the problem? It's a society problem, not a football one.

And as for the life ban being too harsh - i cant imagine anyone ever thinking that directing racial abuse at a player would result in anything BUT a life ban. Why would the punishment be anything less?

What pisses me off, is the amount of people, for example on facebook, who are commenting and slagging off the club and Luis, taking the moral high ground showing how anti-racism they are and how 'offended' they are by what's happened - and then you look at their 'likes' pages and there's stuff like "why are immigrants allowed to come and take our jobs" and EDL for ****'s sake.

Fotunately most of them post on the wall of those pages with open profiles. Its funny how they shut up when you put the ****s up them by asking what their employer, ACME Industries or whoever the hell it is, would think of their views.

The Petition

The following is a letter that will be sent to Mr Tom Adeyemi
(together with the names of all those who have signed) when the police investigation into the incident at the FA Cup clash against Oldham Athletic has completed.

The letter will be slightly modified to reflect the verdict.

Please note that the letter will be sent to Mr Adeyemi ALONE.

It will not be leaked to the media as we feel this would cheapen the gesture. If he chooses to let the media know then that is his choice and we would be delighted.

Dear Mr Adeyemi

I'm writing to you on behalf of the Liverpool fanbase.

We wish to offer our sincerest apologies for any words or actions that may have offended you during the recent FA Cup clash at Anfield on January 6th 2012.

Any deliberate actions of this nature are not condoned by the club and are considered unacceptable by the Liverpool fanbase in general.


The FA Cup is always a special occasion and, as fans, we thoroughly enjoyed the game that Friday night.

We realise that the final scoreline flattered us, and we were impressed by the endeavour and spirit of Oldham Atheltic throughout the contest.

You and your fans did yourselves proud from beginning to end.

It is unfortunate that the same could not be said of all of us.


While our team did do us proud, a small minority of our fellow fans did not and we are all deeply ashamed by this.

It is not in the nature of Liverpool supporters to racially abuse any opposing player for any reason.

We have a long and proud history of looking past the race of our players and of recognising all people for who they are and not what their skin colour, or heritage, is.

This is evidenced by our support of a vastly multicultural squad with players from every corner of the world.


It is in this spirit that we wish to apologise deeply and sincerely for anything and everything that the small portion of our clubs followers may have said or done to offend you.

We wish you all the best for the remainder of the season, your career and for your family too.

Absolutely. What's quite a shame is how unaware of it they are and how they believe themselves to be correct, goes all through public opinion on this matter as well. Just goes to show how deluded people in England are. Well, to be expected really, it's not the politically most active and critically thinking populus out there now!

It's not even confirmed what was said was racist. I'm not denying it. But it's not confirmed by the police. It's - similar as to the Suarez case - the word of this Tom fella. I'm not saying he's lying. Far from it. But I would definitely not dismiss out of hand that with 45000 people in a stadium, screaming, singing, whatever, with his back turned to the Kop, that he'd be able to 100% without fail say the guy called him a black cunt. This is exactly how 'Porque, negro' becomes 'Porque tu eres negro' (although we all know this is a lie and made-up).

However, and I hope the cunts get banned properly with all the might should it be a clear-cut case of racism, a majority of fans who were near the incident are unable to corroborate the words being used, so I would really like a court of law to be looking at all the available evidence in detail and take all the possible witness statements to come to a conclusion.
