No Luis, Lucas and Spearing getting rubbed meant we were never going to take them apart for chrissakes...

          In a nut shell.

Second half wasn't exactly inspiering but we're playing the team that's top of the league away from home.

Good result and lets get the job done in a couple of weeks and onto a major final

Phew! First, the Man City support was dire! Liverpool fans voices heard over them the whole 90

Good performance 1st half and we sat back and a job well done the second half. It was clear the game plan was to soak up the pressure and play ultra defensively. For that reason its worth praising our defensive efforts.

Second leg will be a very interesting tie now. Hopefully more of an exciting game.

Downings issue is confidence. At the start of the game he took Richards on but faded fast

                  Exactly.

Some of the match thread was sickening - a lot of ridiculous comments looking for us to go gung-ho for a 2nd...

                    Exactly.

At the end of the day win only matters and to do that against City away is huge accomplishment.

Terrible is a bit OTT imo, he did his best in a bad situation. Would like to see his passing stats, just needs to be that little bit stronger.

                      I'm encouraged

Yes, most things bar Carroll who was atrocious.

Gerrard admits second half performance wasn't all that.

Losing Spearing didn't help the balance of the midfield.

As important as a another striker in this window is, a defensive midfielder is going to be as important.
                            We come not to play.

Have to agree with this. The only positive was the chance but even that you'd expect him to put it away. Poor performance from Carroll.
