As ever with these things it depends on your age. Whilst I've been watching Liverpool (1964 onwards) I can tell you categorically that Neal, Carragher, Jones and McManaman wouldn't get within a million miles of Liverpool's best XI.

Smith was an incomparably superior RB to Neal and was also a far superior CB to Carragher, as were Yeats, Lawrenson and Gillespie for that matter. Hughes was incalculably better than Jones at LB (I assume you mean Joey as Rob was RB - but he was much better than either). The luxury player that was McManaman had several superiors on the right, Callaghan springs to mind instantly, but there ar several other better candidates than McManaman

April 15th 1989 is a day that all football fans should never forget. It was a day when 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives at a football match at Hillsborough.

I would put Callaghan in any team along with Chris Lawler, Peter Thompson and Roger Hunt also deserve more consideration.

Difficult anorak sort of question this.

more to do with your age I guess. Being 30, they were before my time.

Team of 87,88,89 was my favourite.

And very harsh on a few of the players, i.e. Camara who was a star and Pennant, who may well become a star in the near future.

Only one mention of Thommo, disappointing as he was a great CB in his era.

This is too difficult to call really

Just look at these Strikers... Roger Hunt, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler ,Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, John Toshack, Peter Beardsley Ian St John,

all great in their day ,how do you pick the best....Ok it's the RAF for me then.

                              Fave Winger for me...Stevie Heighway..by a mile.

Fave Midfielder for me... Ronnie Whelan...so skillful and tough

Fave CB for me... Alan Hansen ..superb

                              Fave FB

Some who should have made it but didn't.. Bobby Graham, Alun Evans, Emile Hesky
