It may work for baseball, but it certainly doesn't work for football.
Can you imagine what Henry must be thinking now. Their whole philosophy is based on bringing in players with the potential, who will increase in value. Carroll and Downing's stock is probably down around £25m at the moment...in the space of a 12 months.Last edited by Suarez; 21-01-12, 09:38 PM.

You're right, but before the slagfest on Carroll there were quite a few more players deserving of a slagging off before him.Originally posted by MrNice View Post
Carroll may looked up for it and he did have some decent touched ... but only because the rest of the team were so utterly useless tonight we are cutting him a break .. In a Rafa team if he played like that he would get slaughterd .. at least when Crouch was not scoring his on the ball skills, hold up play, dribbling was superb ...watching A Carroll play right now is like stepping into a time machine to the mid 80s and not in a good wayI make no apologies, this is me

Adam should be getting numerous kicks to the bollocks right now.Originally posted by Deano View PostYou're right, but before the slagfest on Carroll there were quite a few more players deserving of a slagging off before him.
Simply the dumbest player ever to pull on the shirt."I will make the boys feel your support"

Only if they looked at it in the most 1 dimensional way possible. Meireles for example had a better chance creation per minute rate than Adam and Kuyt and Maxi assisted or scored 10 more goals combined than Downing and Henderson did combined.Originally posted by Mostar View PostI disagree.
I think he is, which is exactly the reason why FSG picked him.
We bought Hendo, Downing and Adam as those 3 created the most goal scoring chances last year and that is definitely moneyball approach and Comolli stands behind that one way or another.

I don't dispute any of that. I'm in much agreement with it.Originally posted by Redspin View PostT
Well I didn't want him back. I said on here it was a retrograde step. He was reported as saying that there wasn't enough "banter" in the dressing room, so wanted more British players. Hence we're lumbered with Carroll, Downing and Adam, three of the most screamingly average players I've seen in a red shirt in the 47 years I've been going to Anfield (I still have hopes for Henderson).
So. Dalglish shouldn't have come back and we should not think that it would be similarly regressive to bring back Benitez. He is so superior as a manager to Dalglish and would do wonders with the current regime behind him. As Didi Hamann says in his book, Rafa is a genius. He had little money, a sell-to-buy transfer policy to work with and no backing from the previous owners.
I don't like to see Daglish struggling but it was almost inevitable he would as the game moved on a lot when he was out of management. For what it's worth today's shambolic performance easily makes the top ten worst I've seen from us in those 47 years - shapeless, gutless and pathetic. We made the worst team in the Premier League look like a good pass-and-move team
However, some people need to look at this logically (not you mate).
Ian Ayre voted for Rafa to go. Were the players in 2009-2010 divided over Rafa? What did Ayre and Broughton say about Rafa? What did FSG do when Hodgson was on the rails and heading out of Anfield? They made a decision and did a process given the amount of PR leaked out about it to Rory Smith.
I've wondered countless times what Rafa would've done with the money, and I was one of his biggest critics.
As I've said in a previous post, FSG went through several avenues for their own men before turning to Kenny. When Rafa was sacked at Inter and those flags were outside Melwood (or was it Anfield?), the next report was that FSG would not consider Rafa.
There's a lot of irrationality regarding Rafa and our fanbase. If ever he was to return under FSG, he'd have my full support and I'd feel a lot more comfortable because FSG would've done their homework.

When I say "moneyball" I was referrring to strictly statistical approach in determining the correct players to sign up. I don't think it works not in the way imo we are employing even though stats are always present in one form or another but never used in isolation.Originally posted by sean_lfc View PostMaybe our definition of moneyball is different (I have no idea what you mean by it), but I highly doubt Comolli is the one who has the final say on the transfer value and the wages and the whole package, similar to the way a CFO or CEO has. I could be wrong. Probably am. It's not important though really. Kenny's the manager and has the final say on the players being brought in, whatever they cost is irrespective of the quality of the player.
No I don't think Comolli had the final say in any decision but I think he identified players for certain positions Kenny requested and then Kenny picked the players specifically based on Comolli's player selection and recommendation.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I don't hold with this vision that we could have done this or that differently and all would probably be ok or better, with us playing attacking and consistent winning football and all the signings being good ones.
We went with Kenny, and we have no idea what would have happened had we gone with someone else, Chelsea went with AVB, and they've struggled, and all his/their buys haven't hit the ground running either.,
We're missing the unpredictability, skill, and vision of Suarez too, sorely, but he'll be back soon enough.
We are where we are for now, and that's just one season into Kennys stewardship, with hopefully a cup final to come.
As it happens i thought getting rid of Rafa was ill timed, and said so, but that's gone for now, it's just too early to be thinking about sacking Dalglish. imo.Last edited by Vermilion; 21-01-12, 09:44 PM.
