I don't understand the argument that because it hit his leg first, it shouldn't be a penalty. All that should matter is his intention when he puts his arms up and if the ball hits those arms. If the ref thinks he put his hands up to intentionally handle the ball, it doesn't matter how the ball gets there.
When he's asked to defend, he's horrible to watch.. His poor touch in the middle followed by half arsed attempt at what I guess was a tackle cost us.. Gerrard made up 5+ yards on him trying to block that shot.
We much the better side. Seriously though where is hendo? Another annoymous display. Bellmay is outstanding!! Downing average for me, bit better towards end as he was actually trying stuff but has do improve massively!
Go Taylor Thank **** its not Stan Collymore on the Talk Sport Amateur Hour ...
BBC Radio 5 live summariser Graham Taylor: "I'm not being unkind to those that Tweet, but when do professional footballers ever read laws of the game? Never. The hands are in action so you could argue when it went to his hands it stopped the ball going through to a Liverpool player."
Manchester United and former Liverpool striker Michael Owen on Twitter: "Didn't think that was a pen."
Err always a pen if you are diving in to block the ball and your arms are raised. Sure it wasn't intentional but he blocked the ball with his hands accidentally. Pen by the rule.s
Downing's biggest critic here, mainly because I've always played left side of midfield and he usually seems like an opposing right back.. But I'm impressed with that, if he's got it in him to beat a man, why not try it more! Come on Stewy!!
Enrique isn't looking his usual self I thought, a bit wasteful and if anything getting in the way when we're going forward, at time to the detriment of Downing.
Enrique often plays the ball behind Downing, which makes Downing look worse

To be honest, I don't care if it "should" or "shouldn't" have been a pelanty. All I know is it was given and we're level(ahead). That's all that matters. We can only play the hand that's given.
