Sorry, since when is player of the season a purple patch?
Meireles, who won the February ESPN PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award, beat off stiff competition from fellow monthly winners Samir Nasri (October, December, January), Dimitar Berbatov (September), Fernando Torres (November) and David Luiz (March).
This season is starting to remind me of the dark days of houlliers second to last season, when we were finishing 30+ points off top spot. That is worrying, and we can't blame the post for that.
I don't want us to become a hiring & firing club like Chelsea. But the owners are going to have to make some tough decisions in the summer.
I think that it's a combination of bad luck and not being good enough.
The bad luck has been there for all to see at various points through out the season. In the first half of the season I put it down to bad luck, if we'd hadn't hit the woodwork, if we hadn't missed the penalty, if we hadn't missed that sitter... etc. In the first half of the season I think that luck and poor finishing were the main problems, we were putting in some very good performances, creating alot of chances and missing most of them.
More recently the performance level has dropped and we have put in some very poor performances - there have been some good ones too, Arsenal for example. But in the first half of the season generally we were playing well and not getting what we deserved, the second part of the season we have generally played badly and got exactly what we deserved - nothing.
The question for me is what is the cause of the problem, has the bad luck and not getting what we deserved in the first half of the season started to affect us. Or are some of the players just not good enough? I have to say I think it's the latter some of the players we have just aren't good enough. Yesterday the player we relied on to make things tick was Charlie Adam, I have never really been convinced by him and in recent weeks he has looked way out of his depth. Replacing Adam wouldn't wave a magic wand and suddenly make things alright but it would be a start and IMO would undoubtedly improve the team.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I said til i was blue in the face that Meireles was/is a very good player and we shouldnt have sold him.
It's not *really* about goals/assists. If Adam had 10 goals and 10 assists, maybe you could make that point but the difference between them in these areas is insignificant. Meireles is simply a GOOD FOOTBALLER, he has better game intelligence, he retains and uses possession far better and is far more fluid.
