yep, we appear to be checking for coins down the back of the sofa....... considering the sucess over the past few years & the money that brings it looks desparate when you look at other teams.

I can only frame it as us not wanting to spend when we might be about to be sold? What is the point of FSG spending money now if it doesn't improve the sale valuation they get? Better just to hold off spending until they have sold?Originally posted by Shaggy View PostWe know he's not good enough. There's been a spate of loaned out players recalled lately - not sure what that's about. Are we short of players for the stiffs?
I saw something today about Nat Phillips leaving, which is why Williams has come back. From the outside looking in, our activity at present looks bewildering. Can't understand much of it.
Probably nonsense thinking on my part, but if it's not that then it is gross negligence to let the squad rot and the club suffer like we're doing at the moment.

I think spending would have the opposite effect - securing a would-be superstar for c.£75-100m on a long term contract would improve our chances of winning silverware for the coming years. Especially as you'd hope the value of said player(s) coming in would also increase as they develop/improve with the team and Jurgen's coaching.Originally posted by Pablo View PostI can only frame it as us not wanting to spend when we might be about to be sold? Seems like at the moment FSG's selling point is "Well, we've won lots of stuff in the past, but now have a burden of a wage bill with ageing squad and two fifths of **** all to look forward to..."
So, I'm assuming anything positive or a new signing or two would be better than that!

Might be flogging Phillips off to someone (cough Bournemouth cough) to raise funds for a deadline day supermegadeal?Originally posted by Shaggy View PostWe know he's not good enough. I think it depends on the timeline for a sale, if FSG are expecting to sell now, then spending money doesn't really give added value, but if nothing is going to happen before the summer and we aren't in the CL next season then I think that negatively affects the value of the club, so spending money in the hope of getting CL football probably makes sense...Originally posted by Pablo View PostI can only frame it as us not wanting to spend when we might be about to be sold? I suspect the club is being asked to slim squad numbers by the end of the summer (to raise funds and reduce wage costs), which means doing thorough once-and-for-all assessments of (and final decisions about) players that we have talked about for a couple of years but have not yet come through. Which is probably not before time.
