Admittedly Kinnear was their manager at the time, Pardew clearly has them more organised with better players, but the tempo of our play was miles better than it is at the moment. There was a real crispness and rhythm to our passing and the angles looked much more deliberate and er...pleasing on the eye almost. There seemed to be a point to it at least. Today we were shapeless and really lacked width at times. Why play Suarez left and Bellamy right when they're both used to playing on the opposite sides for previous teams? Made no sense to me. Once again the subs came far too late and didn't seem to get any instructions when they came on. Depressing stuff
Losing Lucas and not replacing Raul at all hurt us big time.

Today we played with Jay, Shelvey and Stevie and regularly deployed Adam and Henderson in the midfield.

Set Stevie aside but none of other players would make in any top 6 teams first lineup and with us they are playing non-stop. Those players are decent squadies at best but they are not starters..

I agree in terms of subs.

Didn't get Carroll being subbed at 78 minute (why subbed him at all if leave it so late). We should have made changes as soon as they scored the second goal as we were so ineffective the moment they scored the first.

If there is one criticism that I have about Kenny is late substitution but then again Rafa wasn't much better

We switched off after the CC final. That's why our season's went tits up lately. Then our finishing is ****e. Kenny should stay.
      Are we winning?

        I think you're right

The defence doesn't look like they trust the midfield either though to be honest, I think Spearing made one tackle and beyond that nobody really won the ball back

Skrtel wasn't passive today, nor any other day; he's the only CB currently fit and being selected that actually stands up to an attacker physically. Coates can also impose himself on an attacker but mystifyingly his assets are overlooked.

We switched off well before that.

Not going to happen in a million years and you are totally delusional to think it will

Losing Lucas is the biggest blow and for me its the inability of any of our other midfielders to do that job

Massive mistake not buying cover, I genuinely thought we could limp through but none of them are good enough to do that job that Lucas did

I agree on Skrtel, i'm not really picking on individuals it's more the team as a whole. We retreat into our own half and hold some form of shape, individuals then press, we lose shape and end up leaving gaps between defence and attack

I'd much rather see us higher up the pitch trying to win the ball rather than being so passive

heard that too though that was probably just speculation.
that said, i like them both, especially the former.

So would I, but it looks as though the number 700 (and very unfortunately beyond) is much more important than actually taking the game to the opposition.
