Tis possible alright, but every bit as possible as Kenny actually being their first choice and they didn't look around.

Rory Smith was the one journalist with the inside track, leaking out the moment FSG decided enough was enough with Hodgson.

It was made quite clear that they wanted a young manager with a track record who could add longevity. Names such as Villas Boas and Klopp were the main players here, but apparently, FSG couldn't get neither because it was mid-way through the season and they wouldn't leave their respective clubs.

They turned to a caretaker manager who they wanted to see out the season and give them time to find a permanent one and the only viable option was Kenny Dalglish.

Isn't there already a thread about next manager options?
