It's a PR stunt aimed at introducing LFC to the American public and advertising the club to potential investors/sponsors.
I beleieve it was commissioned by LFC, so it was never going to do anything to embarras the club.
That said, reading the body language of some of the players, they didn't like the camera following them around did they. Also, when they met the red socks reminded me of the sort of situation when step parents introduce their kids to each other and expect them to play nicely.
