avb was very successful at porto, but maybe people fail to realise he was only there as manager for 1 year...
his man management at the chavs was ****, as the old dead wood that he wanted out have proved they are the backbone of the team. maybe they resented him as he wasnt maureen, but the manager should do whats best for the team, not his own ego.

i dont think i would want him at Anfield.

Yeah, I worry about that as well. He has only been a manager for 3 years years. He crumbled in his last major position. I think people assume because he was part of Mourinho's back team he will bring success. I think he will become a great manager but feel it is too early for him to manage us. Rafa was 44 when he came to us, Mourinho was 41 when he went to Chelsea. Villas Boas is 34.

We have to look at what happened to him at Chelsea and ask why that wouldn't happen again?

I can't make up my mind in him, for me if its not going to be Rafa, then he falls into the category behind, but as a candidate is ahead of Martinez and Rodgers (both equally young but AVB has at least had some success in his short managerial career).

klopp. he's immense. rafa is right up there, i'm just less sure about bringing back another legend, and watching him fail. not that i really think he would.

Why? (Genuine question.) Is it because you think that he can't manage people? Or maybe is (and would be) a tactical neanderthal? Or a poor judge of player? Or what?

Nice read on the AVB post from Shaggy..

He really does need time to implement his style and strategy and I'm not sure he'd get that anywhere in the prem, if results went against him early on.

If he could coach and direct his style as he describes, then he will turn out to be a world class coach and ultimately a world class manager.

The other thing he would need is for the whole club to get behind his philosophy 100% and to really buy in to what he is trying to do, for someone so young, this could also be a problem at this stage..

Respect needs to be earned and you could understand why this was a massive problem with the ego's at a club like Chelsea.

I think the players we have here would be a better, receptive bunch to work with and on that note, I'm in..

On a separate note, would he still look to bring in Falcao and Hulk?

It won't be Rafa. He has only started to be mentioned by Club sources to try to buy off those fans who would criticise the club if they searched high and wide but ignored Rafa....but actually he is being ignored.

christ, why is this so hard to understand? I speak for no one but myself, but I was thoroughly sick to the back teeth of the man and was and still am delighted he got sacked. I blame the media though for my shortcomings and instilling all my negative thoughts towards the man that can walk on water. My entire reasoning comes from sky, fergie, the english media and all the other non believers. Watching us for a period of 6 seasons does not come into the argument and nor should it. I didn't pay to join the cult of rafa worship, my bad.

If someone wanted to be mischievous they could suggest that di Matteo achieved the same thing in a matter of months that took Rafa 2 years to achieve.
