I dont get this ... what so wrong with idolizing a manager ? we do it with players all the time ... is it so wrong to idolize a man who took us to two champions lg finals, drank with the fans in a pub, considers his children scousers, moved to the city, shed geniue tears at the memorial service, his wife works for charities in the city, a man who threw himself into the tradition of the club ... is it so wrong to idolize a man like that ?Originally posted by Phoenix06 View PostI wanted him back at first, but then I was reminded of the cult following and Kenneth's post here was spot on.

I relaize not everybody is going to feel that strongly, but why take issue with the people who do

Its hard to know what to beleive, he was hardly at the best club in the world in terms of decencyOriginally posted by Ben_Itez View PostI'll be very very very VERY disappointed if Villas Boas gets the job.

I'm not too sure we'll overhaul to an extreme extent.Originally posted by Phoenix06 View PostIf we get him, I reckon he'll want a really big overhaul of the squad. Most of the squad doesn't seem capable of fitting into his style of play. Slow, thick in the head and mentally fragile.
He's a Portuguese Rafa in my eyes, except he focuses much much more on technique.
I'm trying to prepare myself to accept Martinez, but my brain just can't take it at the moment.
Reina (Quick off his line)
Johnson (Pace)
Skrtel (I'm unsure)
Agger (Intelligent)
Enrique (Pace)
Lucas (Positioning)
That's where it fell down at Chelsea. I'd much rather have the above in that style of play than Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Luiz, Cole and Mikel/Romeu which is how it was for the majority of his tenure.
We'd need to add at least 1 wide player and another CB because Carragher couldn't do it and I'm not certain if it suits Coates either.
A goalscorer is needed pretty much whoever takes over.
Be interesting to see if he'd carry on developing Shelvey, Henderson, Sterling etc.Vive la France

My opinion is nothing to do with what Chelsea players said about him, purely base upon the way he came across in interviews.Originally posted by MrNice View PostIts hard to know what to beleive, he was hardly at the best club in the world in terms of decency
Obviously if you throw in the rumours and what Chelsea players said then he seems an even bigger cock.
I may well be wrong but it's just the impression i get and for me he just isnt a good fit for the job.'Religion is killing each other over who has the best imaginary friend'

No one accepts there may be two sides to every story. It's always the 'Get rid of Carragher, Gerrard, Ayre, anyone who doesn't like Rafa' stuff that really irks. All the 'FSG are this and that if they don't talk to him'. Maybe they have their reasons? I know he did all of the above, but again, if one person even dares mentions the stuff at Inter or his last season with us, they instantly a WUM who has been reading fed Sky agenda bollocks.Originally posted by MrNice View PostI dont get this ... what so wrong with idolizing a manager ? we do it with players all the time ... is it so wrong to idolize a man who took us to two champions lg finals, drank with the fans in a pub, considers his children scousers, moved to the city, shed geniue tears at the memorial service, his wife works for charities in the city, a man who threw himself into the tradition of the club ... is it so wrong to idolize a man like that ?

I've no beef with the man. It's this bizarre zombie-like 'It must be Rafa, no one else but him' that I have the beef with. I can't enjoy a discussion about him without someone just chipping in with 'I wish he was here.' Even Kenny Dalglish's reign was dogged with it. I mean, Kenny Dalglish! If he got those kind of comments, then what hope does any future manager stand?
I commented a while ago that he has the same effect on fans as Mourinho does at Chelsea. The next manager doesn't stand a chance IMO.
We are becoming the new Chelsea, but it's because of the above. We'll get Martinez or Villas Boas and when we're 7th in the table in October, the comments will be back 'We should've had Rafa'.
I wish he'd just get a job at a different club and then come back later on if there is a vacancy. Otherwise, it's just going to hang over every manager onwards because they aren't Rafa.
I wouldn't call some of the stuff I read idolising. I'd call it a cult following. I've said I've witnessed it from personal experience and that's why I react strongly with it. Nothing personal with anyone or with Rafa.Last edited by Phoenix07; 21-05-12, 08:03 PM.
