He's not really only done ok though. When you consider it's Wigan we're talking about here, and when you consider the money he's spent and the players he's lost. To have them playing good football and keeping them in the Premiership - it's actually an excellent achievement.
On top of that, for all the praise Swansea are getting, it was Martinez who put the foundations in place for this. Pros and cons of Martinez as I see them:
Pros
+ He gets his team playing attacking, passing football - something we all crave
+ He's a tactician, as shown by his switch to an unusual 3-4-3 system
+ He's young, hungry for success
+ He seems to have good man managment skills
+ Likable
+ Experience of the Premiership
+ Possibly more open to working with an experienced 'Director of Football'
Cons
- He's never managed a 'big' club before
- He's not used to working with 'big' players
- Unproven at the highest level
Now I think that list is pretty impartial, but feel free to correct me. Now, let's assume that FSG want to complement the position of manager with an experienced director of football, such as Van Gaal - who would take a far more hands on role than normal. You get someone who cancel out Martinez's flaws. On paper they would compliment one another perfectly. Add in Segura as someone who is familar with the methods at the club already, as well as working with Benitez and Barcelona.
Personally, I'd be pretty excited to see how a team of Martinez / Van Gaal / Segura would do. Van Gaal is the crucial one though. I really hope we bring him in.
