They "need" to spend decent money. Which they've done so far. However they simply are not going to spend like City. Nobody ever has spent like City. in 2010 City's wages alone were more than 110% of their entire income I read yesterday. They lost £194.5m in a year ffs. That's simply ridiculous and asking our owners, or 98% of football club owners, to spend like that, is absurd.

As for Spurs.... do you actually know what their total net spending has been in the last 5 years? About £40m. Link. Oddly that's pretty much exactly FSG's net with us in the last 18 months.

There is no reason at all to believe that enough funding will be available to us to make us competitive IF our manager buys wisely, brings through youth wisely, and puts together a team that works well as a unit. Asking anything more than that from your team, in anything other than massively unusual circumstances, means you have a vastly unrealistic sense of entitlement imo.

It's about spending wisely on players that fit into the system you are looking to play.

Wildly throwing money at it can work (look at City) but its unsustainable and quite frankly ridiculous to do so, only a club that is a rich mans play thing would even consider this approach (see city & Chelsea)

I agree that they are a well run club, but their profits are nowhere near that level ... There was definitely an outside investment by the owners ... By the way, Levy is not the principal owner ... He is only a minority shareholder and an Executive Chairman of the club ... The principal owner is Joe Lewis ...

Oops - might be worth checking your facts out....

£180m is about their NET spend since the Premier League started. If even that much.

That is not huge in the current climate if you have little debt and even occasional CL football.
Actually, it is over £35 million NET per season ... We will have to spend more than that, since there are 5 teams with already established better squads than LFC ...

Not exact figures. But no where near what your saying.

More like £16.9m per season, which is £8.5 per window. Not that much really.

No it isn't. I think you don't understand the difference between net and gross.

I am not talking about the last 5 years ... I am talking about the 5 years before their first qualification for the Champions League ... There is a huge difference there ... Liverpool Football Club should be challenging for the Premier League title, the Champions League title and the domestic cups every season ... In order to do that, we need to spend heavily, and we need world class players and a world class manager ... If FSG can't provide that, they are not the right owners for the most successful club in England ... They should go and buy Everton, and make them sustainable and profitable ... We want trophies ...
Nobody at the club or any fan thinks the primary objective of this club is to simply finish 4th thats a gross exagerration, we all know the history of it demands more but realism amongst fans is also respectable imo, Liverpool fc, like any club has no god given right to always challenge for league titles, we have simply ****ed up a bit in the past few years and it will take time to get back to the stage where we can challenge for league titles and champs league every yr.
