I think a big reason for that is because Rafa's detractors almost always cite the same, identical misrepresentations of him. Be it about zonal marking, his signings, his spending, rotation, tactics, or of course, the famous 'rant'.

Its always the same factually incorrect, unbalanced, unfounded rubbish every time.
It also happens to be the same skewed or outright wrong information that many of the rags and Sky used to delight in when talking about Benítez.

If AVB is available I'm more than happy with that. He is young and has the right idea, obviously there'd be a bit of trail and error but we'd have to give him time. There definitely wouldn't be the same naivety to do with signings which we've had in recent years.

Doesn't AVB only have one specific system and playing style? He would need a lot of money to sign the right players to suit that.

I like him, but would only take him if other options don't materialise. He delivered OM the league, but hasn't really done much since. When they were doing well, they seemed to have a good squad, I don't watch much ligue 1 but heard he used it very well.

I agree with this. Also his time at Chelsea will have helped him a lot, ironing out basic mistakes he'll have made.

It would be interesting to see what difference it would make to the poll if Rafa was eliminated from the list of potential managers. I think that it's a 50/50 split between Rafa and *everyone else*. If Rafa wasn't a realistic target for whatever reason or FSG had decided that Benitez was too troublesome and weren't prepared to repeat their previous mistake then who would be the best alternative candidates?

Gerrard and Carra would be off if he arrived. Look what he did to Chelsea with Terry, Lampard and Drogba.
