Liverpool also keen to speak to Swansea's Brendan Rodgers. Dare FSG pick up phone & ask to speak to David Moyes at Everton? Dons tin hat.

@philmcnulty Moyes would have been a shoo-in had he been manager of any club other than Everton. Shall I also don my tin hat for replying?
You would hope King was taking the piss!

I'm preparing myself for another bumpy year - 18months before we are in the exact same situation again. Call it negative but we're looking at midtable managers, unproven at even a half decent level like the Europa league.

If memory serves, Rafa said that as Hicks & Gillette lied about the transfer budget available, and that Cecil was interfering in footballing matters, he insisted that all footballing operations came under his authority so he could retain some control over the squad. If Hicks, Gillette & Cecil would not have taken this approach, Rafa would have been happy to continue with a more traditional, diluted role.

Agent Broughton.....your work is nearly complete......

****it, thats just how I feel right now. Looks like we are determined to challenge the bottom 4 next season let alone the top 4. At least in Martinez and Rodgers we have experts in that field.

We're going to be run like a company. I'm sure our next manager will no longer have full say in transfers. It may be that we're going back to the old bootroom style but with a more modern approach.

Really dont get how so many see him as some sort of genius. Loads of blues absolutely despise him! He has a mid table wage budget and finishes mid table. Well ****ing done.

We need to be back up amongst the top 4 again in the next 3-5 years, how much damage would it do to our fanbase worldwide if we don't? We're a long way off, a manager is the key first part, get that wrong and the rest will fail.

I can't get my head around this "midtable manager" idea - a good manager can get the best out of the players he has at his disposal. Getting more out of better players is no different from getting more out of lesser players, they're just better players. We need a manager who can find good value in the transfer market and get the best out of those players. Benitez was excellent at this, Martinez also excels at this.

That may be true, but I still think Rafa's control-freakery, and history of politicking and prickly relationships with his superiors/colleagues will be something that FSG is extremely wary of.

We'll end up with Martinez. It looks increasingly like it. He'll be assisted by Segura and others, so all the pressure will be taken off him a bit. Makes sense as him becoming our manager with the responsibility that normally goes with a manager in English football (and with the enormous pressure that comes along to be LFC boss), I wouldn't have given him a chance to last 6 months. It's clear that lines of responsibility will be shared now.

                              I'm thinking that.

So how would Martinez, Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain work?

Don't think we'll see Guardiola at the club.
