I'm a huge Rafa fan but Mourinho is a superior manager IMO.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postno way on earth would i take jose over rafa.
With Rafa we get the advantage of his love for the club, he'd stick around and he's already familiar with us.
But I've argued that sentiment isn't a good reason to hire someone so between the 2 for pure footballing reason's Mourinho even if he is a cunt would be better.Vive la France

Depending on Reina, just because he's been linked with a move in the past, I'd take Vorm if we needed a GK personally.Originally posted by Gibbo9 View PostNone

Falcao
Porto have a good few interesting players.. Falcao would be immense but I'm about as likely to sign.Vive la France

How many realistic managers are there who could bring the best players into the club?Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View PostWe need a man that knows the European market well IMO because the talent here is such a limited pool.
I think it has been proven that the buy British policy is flawed and buying Premiership experienced players hasn't worked either. We need to be smart with our transfer dealings, not paying over the odds for average players. I am convincing myself more daily that we need a smart manager with fresh ideas, I don't think that having an extensive CV (let's say 36 years in football management for example) always equates to success.

I don't know who has the best knowledge of the market to be fair. Rafa seemed to with Alves, Silva, Mata whoever else we couldn't afford but seemed to want.
AVB could well do for all I know, not sure who he brought to Porto.
My fear with a Martinez type is that he hasn't had to concentrate on talented players from abroad because he'd have had no chance anyway. He'll have came across the better English player/PremierLeague due to playing them.Vive la France

All we know for sure is that he has succeeded in maintaining Wigan's status as a Premiership club which is surely all that could be expected given the finances available. We are looking to appoint a manager who will achieve our expectations within our financial limitations.Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View PostMy fear with a Martinez type is that he hasn't had to concentrate on talented players from abroad because he'd have had no chance anyway. Yes but the two are night and day.. Survival vs Expectation to improve and push on.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostAll we know for sure is that he has succeeded in maintaining Wigan's status as a Premiership club which is surely all that could be expected given the finances available. Edit: For me the natural move for Martinez would have been Villa if we didn't have the situation. It's the next step up on the ladder.Vive la France

Right, so its not a question of not being able to look beyond Rafa then.Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postwhat on earth? all i'm saying is that i despise mourinho. there's only a couple of names on the above list that i'm not interested in for one reason or another.
I'm just talking in relation to my post to Mr M, which I thought you were responding to..

Why are the two things so different? Every club has expectations according to their finances, we expect to reach the Champions League every season. I would love us to win the Premiership, but that is becoming increasingly difficult given our financial limitations compared to other clubs. I think we can be comfortable with our expectations to reach second, third or fourth most seasons. We need a manager capable of getting the most out of the relatively limited finances we have at our disposal and we certainly can't afford to pay over the odds for crap/average players.Originally posted by Robbie-9-Fowler View PostYes but the two are night and day..
