Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Another good thing about our next manager: there is no hiding place for any of the players. Whether its Carra or Downing or Adam or even Henderson. So I am definitely excited for this summer's activities and no doubt an earlier pre-season.

I dont think Rafa benitez will be invited back. It was under his leadship that the decline started and he was fired correctly so at the time. He apeared to be unable to turn things around and after quite a few years in charge was actually starting to go backwards rather than forwards from what was a very promising start.

Personally I would give AVB a go. He is young and has success behind him even if it was relatively limited. I wouldnt read too much into failure at Chelsea. Some big names have failed there.

Finally if we were to go for a british manager then I would go for Martin ONeill. I think he would be a great fit with Liverpool.

Rafa it has to be... Give the man the job and give him the money to go out and buy the players he wants... Then forget about 4th spot, we go out and win the title... Unrealistic - Never..

FSG have done the typical American thing of running around sacking everyone when its not going right. Its also one of the reasons I get fed up with football these days. They need to be realistic about our club, heritage and fans rather than playing around with models with inherent faults and built in conflicts. Who have we got in the executive management of the club now who's a great football person? I hate to say it, but German football clubs are better run than ours our these days.

As I see it whoever they appoint next is on a hiding to nothing. They are having to follow a Liverpool legend and if they don't hit the ground running immediately they will lose the crowd very quickly. Also with what's happened the pressure for results from all quarters will be huge, so whoever they appoint will have to have a big personality and broad shoulders. Looking at the names everyones talking about and who's available we've got a very small choice. Unless they are prepared to take a huge gamble of course.

Hicks, Gillette and Martin O'Neill Cocaine's a hell of a drug
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Oversimplistic statement of the thread so far, and there have been a few.

You conveniently forget the peaks we reached under Rafa from the end of Houllier years, the balancing of the budget so selling rather than buying, and the shear energy required to work with H&G and the constraints they put on the club.
                    Oh I don't know.

I think the longer H&G were here the more the club went backwards, their influence and intentions made the club a bitter environment imo, and Rafa was left fighting against the tide, on all fronts, kept out of loop on the ownership front, and fed a pack of lies as far as pursuing his targets went, amongst other things.

But hey, we could both be wrong.

I was reading up on the 3-4-3 formation, and it seems to be getting some hype within football quarters. There's some dry youtubes showing how it works, and you should be able to find some examples of it being played if you want to look into it.

It's almost zonal across the whole pitch which shifts depending where the ball is. But in a nutshell it ****s up your oponents formations.

                                I would love Rafa back

But he has a point, monstrously over-simplified though it may be

I think that many many people do the same though, ie not take into consideration what was happening at the same time as our 'decline' at the hands of Rafa

That, coupled with the once again over-simplified fact that he's had beef with every board at every club he's managed bar Madrid B, might also sway things against him IMO

For ages I've been absolutely nonplussed at others' inability to see Rafa as I do, but speaking objectively, its understandable why many wouldnt want him
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet
