Fair enough, but I'm always dubious when people start using the opinions of dead people to support their opinions. "its what x would have wanted" etc.Originally posted by Molby View PostShankly was a winner - simple as that. He never stood for 2nd best...
This is one of his more famous quotes....
“My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Had Napoleon had that idea he would have conquered the bloody world. I wanted Liverpool to be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up until eventually everyone would have to submit and give in.”
Presuming you've read the above, Do you think he'd be happy with the appointment of a man who is happy to avoid relegation by the skin of his teeth every year?
By the way, i never said i was speaking on his behalf, Kenneth. I'm just a supporter of LFC with an opinion...
Shankly had a prett mediocre record at Huddersfield when he joined us. Now we were a different club then in div 2, but he does show that managers can achieve great things without the best CV.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Ian Arye is not a proactive MD he is a reactive MD...and a crap one at that too. No Business MD would let Kenny run his mouth at the saurez situation or fester on so long.
He got the big deals. Really?? Wow 1 'Big deal' He got SC..we have been getting screwed by Carlsberg for years and most people knew that..anyone could have got a 'big deal'. There has been 0 innovative deal that Man Utd or Real Madrid have not yet done. Its a copy cat model to 'increase' an already underachieving brand.
I doubt he had anything to do with the warrior deal too.

I think you have to remember that back then boards of directors often picked sides and interferred with team selectionOriginally posted by Kenneth View PostFair enough, but I'm always dubious when people start using the opinions of dead people to support their opinions. I suggest you read Shanks' biography that has recently been re-released if you want an idea of what he actually achieved and the difficulties he faced
Remember he actually turned down the LFC job years before when they told him the board would pick the sideBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Liverpool hope for talks with André Villas-Boas over manager’s job
Tony Barrett
Published 1 minute ago
Liverpool are planning to hold talks with André Villas-Boas next week as they continue to search for a replacement for Kenny Dalglish.
Just two months after he was sacked by Chelsea, Villas-Boas, 34, has emerged as a serious candidate for the vacant managerial position at Anfield, with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the club’s owner, keen to discover if he has recovered from his bruising experience at Stamford Bridge.
FSG is a long-time admirer of the Portuguese, having identified him as a potential replacement for Roy Hodgson after their takeover of Liverpool in October 2010. Its hopes of recruiting him from Porto came to nothing, however, because of a combination of Dalglish’s success as caretaker manager after Hodgson’s dismissal and Roman Abramovich’s determination to take Villas-Boas to Chelsea.
At that time, Villas-Boas was one of Europe’s most highly regarded young coaches and he was said to have his pick of several clubs, with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan believed to have been willing to pay the £12 million release clause in his Porto contract.
His stock has slumped since then, however, because of his apparent inability to command the respect of the Chelsea dressing room and his failure to arrest a decline in results that helped to undermine their hopes of finishing in the top four of the Barclays Premier League.
It could be that Villas-Boas will emerge as the leading candidate to replace Dalglish via a process of elimination featuring several managers. FSG’s scattergun approach to its recruitment strategy has already led them to gain permission to speak to Roberto Martínez, the Wigan Athletic manager, but they have been rebuffed by two further contenders.
Brendan Rodgers rejected the opportunity to speak to Liverpool, sources close to the Swansea City manager indicating that he had been unwilling to take part in a beauty parade along with a number of other candidates.
“The club is pleased to confirm that Brendan has declined the opportunity to speak about the vacant position,” Swansea said in a statement.
Jürgen Klopp, another potential candidate, is also out of contention after the Borussia Dortmund coach privately made it clear that he has no wish to leave the Bundesliga champions. The 44-year-old figured prominently on a shortlist put together by FSG, which features as many as a dozen names, but Klopp has no interest in the Liverpool job.
At one stage yesterday, Rafael Benítez was tipped for a return to Liverpool only two years after he left the club by mutual consent. The Spaniard remains a popular figure among the club’s fans, as reflected in a series of polls on who should succeed Dalglish, but FSG is understood not to want Benítez because of their belief that he would not complement the managerial structure that they are looking to implement.
As things stand, Martínez remains the only employed candidate that Liverpool have been given permission to speak to, although reaction to the possibility of the Spaniard taking over at Anfield has received a decidedly lukewarm reaction on Merseyside.
Against this backdrop of uncertainty, Liverpool used the club’s official Twitter account to invite supporters to put forward their ideas of who should take over as manager. The stunt merely served to fuel suspicion that their recruitment strategy was lacking in direction, however, and the tweet was deleted shortly afterwards.
“The context of our last tweet seems to have been misunderstood — we were simply looking for fan views to include on a fun online feature,” they explained in a subsequent tweet.

Rafa twist: Liverpool HAVE now approached former boss about return
Rodgers snub leads Reds chiefs to make contact with the Champions League winner - but would he work with a director of football?
Rafa Benitez has been approached by Liverpool as their search for a new boss took another twist.
After being snubbed by Swansea’s Brendan Rodgers on Friday, Liverpool have continued their hunt for Kenny Dalglish’s successor by speaking to their former manager.
The Spaniard left Anfield in 2010 before Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool and they are impressed by his CV.
Benitez has been itching to return since quitting Inter Milan 18 months ago and has long hoped to take over from Dalglish.
He feels he has unfinished business, because of the way his six-year reign ended unhappily in June 2010 after Liverpool finished seventh in the Premier League.
The Champions League-winning boss has been plotting a return from his home on the Wirral and has kept in touch with Kop fans groups, who would welcome him back.

But it is unclear how serious FSG are about Benitez, because they have identified so many candidates and already have permission to speak to Wigan boss Roberto Martinez.
Benitez, 52, may also have reservations about having to work with a director of football as he had established total control on the playing side by the time he left Anfield.

It's sad mate. In a perfect world we'd all be united and give each other man hugs. Things just don't work that way though do they. The fact is everyone has strong opinions over what it's going to take to get us challenging again. We're all passionate fans at the end of the day.Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostIt's a nightmare mate honestly it is making me feel more depressed than I already am.
