I thought that was what Ayre was here for and good at. What has this man done to deserve more responsibility outside of the marketing side? I'm afraid it just involves a lot of serious ass kissing.

A TOP American executive behind the ownership of Liverpool FC described his Reds Carling Cup Final experience

                as: "Beyond compare."

Billy Hogan was among a handful of businessmen from Fenway Sports Management who made the trip across the Atlantic for their first English showpiece game.

The Boston managing director told the ECHO moments after the game:

"I came here with three other company from the US on Wednesday, but Sunday was the crowning glory.

"It was just a tremendous experience. The crowd and their passion was incredible and the pageantry showed by the Liverpool fans was pretty overwhelming."

The Boston executive watched the game with Liverpool's owners John Henry and Tom Werner and the three were treated to a nerve-jangling ride for their first English football cup final.

Mr Hogan has attended matches at Anfield several times since the club's £300m sale, but this was on a different level, he said.

The 37-year-old, who has been involved improving Liverpool’s sponsorship arrangements, enthused: "Winning was the most important thing.

“We watch Liverpool games and football matches all the time now in the States since the acquisition of the club, as before I was only really a casual football fan.

"Seeing all the Liverpool fans together, and close to the Cardiff fans without any problems, just adds to the whole occasion.

This is something quite unique in world sport.

"It's hard to describe how I felt.

We were in one of the East side lounges, but even though we weren't outside on the seats, the atmosphere was very special.

Wembley is fantastic too, a massive building and I thought it was great.

"The beauty of Liverpool and the Red Sox is both sets of fans have incredible passion.

They care so much about winning and their clubs that it's shown with their noise levels.

"I was jumping up and down when it was towards the end and when it went to penalties.

It was difficult to stay calm.”

The Cleveland-born executive helped to secure the deal which saw Miami Heat basketball megastar Lebron James secure a small stake in Liverpool.

                And Hogan added:

“There's nothing in baseball that's as pressure packed as what I watched today.

I've never been as nervous watching any kind of sporting game.

I'm looking forward to more of the same with Liverpool."

With two more Wembley trips potentially on the horizon in the FA Cup , Mr Hogan is already hoping for more transatlantic flights before the end of the season.

                He said:

"If we get to another final, I want my name on the list.
But for now, it's time for celebrating and a drink."

Tony Evans did say there would be a raft of appointments over the next week or two.

Is the only ITK with regards to FSG as far as I am concerned. Hardly anyone else gets exclusives like him. I think he was the 1st to break the news that FSG were planning to buy us in OCT 2010. Nearly 2 years ago.

Ian Ayre given great responsibility under new contract.
What does this mean exactly, in terms of what he does already?

Managing Director Ian Ayre will get greater responsibility over negotiating player trades and contracts, a role previously done by Comolli, one of the people said.
An official announcement confirming the arrival of Hogan will be made later this month, the people said.
